Clearly not much has changed. She leans democrat but is also a thorn in their sides.

Thanks Trump. Without Walker this could have been worrisome.

Doesn't seem like a good political strategy, though ... I'd assume the Dems would run their own candidate in 2024, and that would give the seat to the Republicans in 2024 ...

Re-election play. Fear of losing a Dem primary.

“When I come to work each day, it’ll be the same,” Sinema said. “I’m going to still come to work and hopefully serve on the same committees I’ve been serving on and continue to work well with my colleagues at both political parties.”

I’m guessing not running. She won’t win. Dems won’t support. She won’t win pubs.

Unless she caucused with the Republicans it wouldnt have changed anything. 50-49 majority if she was a 'true' independent.

Clear sign she's not running for re-election in 24 and giving the party 2 years notice to get organized.

Can’t say I don’t sympathize with this sentiment:

“When politicians are more focused on denying the opposition party a victory than they are on improving Americans’ lives, the people who lose are everyday Americans,” Sinema wrote.

Do you remember someone by the name of John McCain? They'll turn out in droves to keep a Democrat from pushing her out.

If she runs as an independent I don’t know how she wins, she doesn’t have enough support from right of center to win a three way race. Would likely guarantee a Republican win.

She is an independent. Good for her. I wish more politicians would stand independently on how they believe their constituency is best served, rather than vote what someone in a party decides is in the Party’s best interest.

The way things are, we don’t need 2 Senators from each State, nor do we need representative representation in the House. We just need 1 person from each party to cast their respective vote and eliminate all the unnecessary fat and waste that goes with the feckless elected officials standing for Party over People.

She’s going to lose badly to her likely challenger. He’s a progressive, Latino, US Marine and Harvard grad (first in his family to go to college) and longtime community organizer. A freaking unicorn. We need more like him.

The problem with her is that she is not concerned with her constituency, she's concerned about herself.

Exactly. I'd even say she's more focused with her big donors than anyone else

Maybe you’re right. With the Dems securing the 51-49 advantage (plus 1 of the VP), her power in the Democratic Party was somewhat neutered. But going independent makes re-election very, very difficult, so the decision is long-term not self-motivated.

So the breakdown of the Senate now is:
    49 Republicans
    48 Democrats
3 Independents (2 of which have declared they caucus with the Democrats, Sinema hasn't officially declared)
