I believe this is wildly wrong. 17 grams is more than half an ounce. That's a pretty big bag of weed (assuming it was flower). BG had something like a gram or less.

 

He's not helping Americans in foreign lands if he sets up a precedent whereby rogue countries will start kidnapping Americans every time they have a prisoner they want set free. He's putting more Americans in danger. You need to look at the bigger picture, not the incident in isolation. And this trade in particular is abhorrent--thousands of people worldwide will die because the Merchant of Death was set free. Some of those people may or may not be Americans. If I was running against Biden in 2024, I would describe this trade as Biden committing a crime against humanity.

 

Even if it's a gram of less if the law was no weed at all that's the law of the country. So why are you giving Griner a pass when she did break the law? Who are we to determine and judge the laws of another country? If she wanted weed that badly she shouldn't have been in Russia. But like so many celebrities Griner was arrogant and didn't think the law applied to her. She learned today that she was right, the law doesn't apply to her.

Who was forcing Griner to stay in Russia when the vast majority of smart Americans had already gotten out?
