POLL: Should the US trade Viktor Bout for Brittney Griner?

I hold these two opinions at the same time: bad trade, but right thing to do.

 

Brittney Griner is a pathetic POS who hates this country. Outside of full on espionage even the worse marine has done far more for this country than the best basketball player.

Brittney Griner will now believe the rules don't apply to her. That she can do whatever she wants with no consequences because she's "famous". She just better be happy she's black, trans and lesbian because if she wasn't she still there.

Even if you take Whelan out of this, Griner isn't even remotely worth giving up an ARMS DEALER who has devoted time to KILLING AMERICANS!

Justify why Brittney Griner is even remotely worth giving up an ARMS DEALER who has dedicated time to KILLING AMERICANS!!

From a pragmatic standpoint I think he'll magically drop dead at some point soon. His being out doesn't really change anything as far as the gun dealer scumbag population goes. He's probably one of many. Also I don't think she should spend her life in jail for something so silly. I'm no WNBA fan, but I'd feel the same if it was Carrottop, Tucker Carlson, or whoever. We do place a higher value on Americans in this country than many others, and I'm glad. So again it's a crappy deal but I'm glad it was made.

 

I'm not sure a long stay in Russia would be a punishment for Tucker Carlson

 

Here is an opinion that will really make you rage: Americans kill other Americans regularly on a staggering basis with gun violence. Aren’t right wingers vehemently against gun laws because it won’t stop bad guys from getting them, anyways? Using your logic, an arms dealer being prisoner swapped shouldn’t be a big deal.

By the way, you right wingers who claim to love freedom of speech and this country sure do get butt hurt anytime someone says anything even slightly critical about it, lol. Freedom of speech! Unless it’s a viewpoint I disagree with them on, then screw them. Just like you “back the blue” unless they’re in your way of accomplishing something such as an insurrection, lol.

 

I’m not sure what liberal talking points aggregator fed the “analogize Viktor Bout to gun control” line of reasoning out this morning, but the apparent willful ignorance of any meaningful difference between handguns (the weapon used in the vast majority of US gun crime) and surface to air missiles (what Bout was imprisoned for trying to sell to a terrorist organization) is at least somewhat entertaining.

 

Trading the Merchant of Death for someone with two illegal vaping cartridges doesn't sound like great negotiating from my experience with baseball cards.

 

The main difference is that handguns kill way more Americans than SAMs do.

 

My experience from baseball cards is that I should have cashed in for the 50 cents and bought a pack of gum instead of the $0 dollars they are now worth

Serious question here, don't the sanctions we've imposed on them already do that? What about the military aid we're sending to kill their soldiers? Like does nothing else count until this prisoner exchange, no grudge could be held against a high profile American until now?

 

FWIW, the Whelan family is ok with it.

 

I don't defend Biden often, but perhaps it was determined this was the best we were going to do in a trade with Putin and so instead of getting no one home, he brought Griner home. I know that is an unpopular take, but perhaps that was the thought process on our end.
