Been saying this for years. Far right wing libertarian and far left wing anarchist are basically next to each other on the circle. You just get there different directions.

If you want to look at it linear, both the Democrats and the Republicans are much closer to the totalitarianism side of the line than the freedom side of the line.

All this talk about "democracy" from both side but neither side actually wants that because that means the other side gets a turn. Nobody ever said "you know, our side has been in office long enough, lets see what the other side has to offer". Sure people who are truly in the middle will, but not most people who claim one side or another. They want their way and you either deal with it or stfu and assimilate.

Both sides have their crazies (Jan 6 coup, far right extremists and on the other side Seattle takeover, riots, antifa etc). We need more people who condemn both because right now all we have is two sides claiming they are above board and they are "the good guys" when in reality both sides are the same amount of corruptness just with a different flavor.

Pretty important difference: Tucker Carlson and CPAC went to Hungary to back Orban's extremism and say that we should emulate it. I don't remember Rachel Maddow or Netroots doing the same in Peru. In fact, the Biden administration heavily criticized the leader in Peru.

In Left wing extremism in the form of socialism or communism, the state owns the property and means of production and doles out its wealth to the favored few. In a right wing extremist society like Russia, there is procedure ownership that is subject to allegiance to the dictator. In both forms of extremism, there are no, or sham, elections and the courts are corrupt instruments of the state/party. Basically, different forms of the same thing. So, the circle ⭕️ comparison is apt. The attempts to create a right wing dictatorship here have so far been rebuffed by a small segment of voters and the courts. If the Supreme Court upholds the independent legislature doctrine, we are on our way. And the extremists on that court— led by Alito— who is so quick to rely on cherry picked history— snowed in oral argument that they are ignoring the history of this country that has never had such a thing.

Such BS. This both sides ridiculousness comes from disaffected righties who don’t want to call out the predominance of right wing infection in mainstream conservatism so they act like there is some equal infection in the Democratic Party. No dice man. It’s not a both sides problem. Antifa ain’t winning Democratic offices within the Democratic Party. Jan 6 supporters and election deniers are widespread at the state levels.

That's a pretty simplistic way to think about it, IMO. Ultimately, its a matter of how you respond to opposition that wants to basically get rid of the 'legitimate' system of government in place, and its definitely viewed through a prism of how you view that government and its legitimacy. If Nicolas Maduro rightfully arrests a bunch of opposition plotting an overthrow of his government, he's going to be the bad guy for a lot of people. I dont see many people siding with the Iranian government when it comes to suppressing opposition either.

The question of how you handle opposition that is essentially hostile to your governing project is a tough problem. If you created a socialist democracy, would you allow a fascist opposition party to grow unchecked that wanted to collude with capitalist powers to undermine/overthrow the project? At what point are liberal democratic values self-destructive to liberal democracy? We are facing that question here too. Any group of people who's stated goal is to upend the government through extra/quasi-legal (or just plain legalistic) means as it exists could be said to be plotting a 'coup.' Take Peru for example ... who did the "coup?" The right-wing opposition who never accepted the elected president and repeatedly tried to remove him from office and end his presidency or the president who decided to deal with that problem by attempting to dissolve the legislature?

    1. This is not a "both sides" issue. No one with any legitimate connection to the Democrat party has any connection or allegiance to ANTIFA. We don't even know who ANTIFA is and haven't even seen them for 2 years now. The Republicans party is clearly directly connected to Jan. 6 and literally exiled members who were critical of it.

    2. Democracy doesn't mean you have to "share" with the other side. It means the other side has regular opportunities to convince the electorate that they have better ideas. Republicans clearly don't try and do that. Republicans are all-in on trying to maximize their advantages in the non-democratic institutions of the US - the electoral college, the Senate, and the Supreme Court. If the US was a more representative democracy without these non-democratic features, we would see a totally different Republican party that actually tried to appeal to the most people.

You already don't know what you are arguing about. Just throwing your latest email chain bulletin material at me. You're going to have to work harder than that my guy. Oh wait, you seem so far left maybe I need to ask your pronouns or you might have an aneurysm.

If you’re going to take exception to his his claim that the Democratic Party has no connection nor allegiance to antifa, perhaps you should explain what you think the connection is.

This is Germany’s version of Jan 6 hysteria, a pathetic attempt to bolster its standing by appeals to its fragility and vulnerability. Watch it move to ban opposition parties now. Witness the degradation of Western leadership. Ship of fools.
