No one is knocking spring sports or higher learning but that’s not a topic that comes up when discussing football. I can’t tell my Bama guys that we beat them in tennis and we are just smarter. Nobody is buying that shit.

My opinion, with the type of athletes here, we should have stuck with a spread O. Shouldn't try to copy Bama and UGA, just concentrate on beating them

    Yeah, I miss 96, 06 and 08.........
6-7 and 6-6 over a two year stretch has been fairly uncommon since 1980.

It’s pathetic having to hear from the Clowntown fans that have three losses and think they did something

Bobby had no NIL, no transfer portal, no mega conferences, and very limited social media. Smart has to contend with all of that. He is not going to be able to stockpile talent moving forward. Tennessee and Kentucky have closed the gap, and I know we will. Tennessee has a 6’6” QB coming in. We have great talent coming in.

Smart’s advantage was the disparity in talent. The disparity is diminishing!

It looked like we were "back" for two seasons or so during Mullen's tenure, so the program did take one big step forward before taking two big steps back.

We'll be okay. The best thing this program could use right now is some stability. Being a consistent top 10 to 15 team every season builds the perception of the program over time. People don't know what to think when you win 11 games one season and win 4 the next.

Well I agree, tho at this point Id be happy just being competitive in football vs our main rivals and having some hope when the season starts.
It's the continued blaming of other sports and/or academics for the decline of the football program that I find annoying.

Actually, they are doing just that when they whine about resources going to those areas instead of football. It's as if football should have an unlimited budget and the rest should scramble for scraps. I totally understand that some fans dont care about anything but football, especially if they are not an alum, but that's not all of us.

Funny you mention tennis, my best friend who is a Gator alum and former tennis instructor was far more excited about the Gator's NC in tennis than any football game (an outlier I know).

It’s not being 100% behind having a top-notch program in football is white football has been sucking. All those other sports cannot exist without a top to your football team. It pays for everything

Great question. Muschamp had an outstanding season in 2012 (don't care about the bowl game, yes, disappointing, but it's a bowl game). We were a car ride home listening to the USC/ND game hoping for a real shot at the national championship. His failures came afterwards. McElwain had a really good thing going up until about Will Grier (insert transgression here). Mullen obviously started off hot, couldn't manage success and inexplicably let the bottom fall out of the defense. I think every coach comes in with a plan and has at least a taste of success (even Zook was a Swindle away from a likely SEC Championship Game). But it's like Tyson said, everybody has a plan until they get hit for the first time. Napier is still playing with house money, probably better for him that he didn't start off too hot as long as he can build. But the first big question will likely be how he reacts to "getting hit." The coaches before him were not successful; I'm eager to see what Napier has to offer.

    Go GATORS!

100% to many seems to mean the Bama cheating model, to which I'll pass. Just some very bad coaching hires IMO.

Beggars can’t be choosers, they should just be thankful that somebody else pays for them to do what they do.

It’s hard to recruit if you’re not cheating and the top teams are. You’re not getting me to work 70+ hours a week with no bags and parents showing me out the door.

Football brings in almost all the money. They should get the biggest piece of the pie.

I don’t think our non revenue sports are neglected at all though. We have top notch pay and top notch facilities across the board, imo. Football has probably been neglected as much or more than any other sport.

As long as UGa keeps finishing in the top 3 of the recruiting rankings every year, that is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Just saw an article from one of our own here at gatorcountry regarding the portal and attrition rate. Great piece, and I highly recommend.

It just goes to show that coaches need to use the portal to their advantage, especially if they're losing a lot of players to it.

We and coaches would be best suited in viewing the portal as an opportunity to turn things around quickly than to look at it as an obstacle to keep players who are either a bad fit here or were not performing here or both.

All of that said, I would be pleased with the class if everyone committed signed tomorrow and nobody else committed. I'd probably give it a B to a B+ for Florida bump class with championship standards, but an A as a general recruiting class without any additional context.

The portal can potentially artificially elevate this class to a solid A championship level. Won't be easy, but recruiting has already proven to be one of Napier's strengths.
