The evidence suggests Kemp would have handily beaten Warnock in THIS election if he were the candidate. I’m not yet convinced Georgia is even a purple state. Trump just #^*&ed everything up for Republicans in ‘20 and ‘22, basically handing the dems two senators with the shenanigans of ‘20, and helping them
hold one of those seats 6 more years with about the worst candidate imaginable in ‘22.

The first chink in the armor was 2018 Lucy McBath winning Newt Gingrich's old seat for the Democrats for the first in forever, the same seat Ossoff first unsuccessfully ran for in 2017 special election.

    From your article:

Seems strange that you would have your foot run over by a car and your foot would have no visible signs of injury. Pretty sure something that weighs over 1,000 pounds being put on your foot would at least cause some sort of visible sign of physical trauma.

"Trump just #^*&ed everything up for Republicans in ‘20 and ‘22."

    Boo hoo.

Republicans embraced Trump and refused to hold him accountable for anything, including his two clearly impeachable offenses and his treasonous efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia and other swing states.

What should be clear for the Republicans that Trumpian candidates might be able to win primaries in swing states like GA, AZ, and PA. But these candidates can't win the general election. And if the Rs want to win the White House and take back the Senate in 2024, they will need to run away from Trump, not run him and other MAGA disciples.

Easier said than done. Still a lot of Trump followers in the rank and file of the R party. And as of today, Trump is the frontrunner for the 2024 R Presidential race. If Trump is on top of the ticket in 2024, it could have a negative down ballot problem for the Rs. If Trump isn't on top of the ticket, and loses in the primaries, will Trump try and burn the entire party down? Either way, Trump is currently now an albatross for the Rs. Ironically, if Trump gets tried and convicted in the GA election interference case, and/or the Mar-a-Lago secret docs case, that might be enough to tip Rs away from Trump. And may clear the way for someone like DeSantis to win the nomination without Trump burning every bridge on his way out.

Exactly. Kevin Drum had a piece today about that phenomenon - how consumers of far right media start with a baseline "knowledge" of the widespread and fully proven but covered up rampant criminality for all things Democrat, and then fit each development into that template. In this case, James Baker and Twitter:

Whew. Like most conservatives, Turley simply assumes that the past four years have been ones of epic Democratic corruption and then proceeds from there. It's a whole private universe for right-wing lunatics.

Even more bizarrely, the supposed point of the column was the revelation that a guy named James A. Baker had emerged as the ringleader of all things corrupt. Note that this is not James A. Baker, the famous former secretary of state, but James A. Baker, the former general counsel for the FBI through 2017 and then deputy general counsel for Twitter. Baker has a pretty solid reputation in DC, but he worked at the FBI during the Trump administration and was therefore around during the Russia probe and everything else the MAGAnauts fear and loathe about the FBI.

    ***

Anyway, this is how the right-wingers see things. They live in a world based on the axioms of Russiagate, Biden family corruption, the FBI's malfeasance, and Twitter's obeisance to the Democratic Party. With that as foundation, it's hardly difficult to construct a conspiracy based on James Baker mysteriously popping up everywhere as a puppetmaster for liberal interests.

Dont know about red/purple/blue, but without a doubt Georgia is now less red than Florida given that they have 2 Dem senators for the next 4/6 years, same for NC who has a Dem governor. Never thought I would see the day when Florida was redder than Georgia and Arizona.

Not at all - I was asked to provide documentation of the incident, as the original post indicated that domestic violence was uniquely disqualifying to Walker and ignored Rev. Warnock's past. There are platitudes to every case, but neither candidate is above reproach and that was my point.

I tend agree although let's keep in mind that Ossoff will not be running for reelection for another four years and Warnock not until 2028. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Brian Kemp could have aspirations for an even higher office by then. Keep in mind that although Ron DeSantis is currently considered the Republican Party's next star if he loses to Trump in the 2024 primaries or if he wins the nomination and loses the general election because Trump managed to blow up the party he could very well be considered damaged goods as a candidate for the 2028 presidential election.

Majorie Taylor Greene claiming Walker lost because he only invited her to speak at a couple of rallies in her district, not state-wide. She also adds she was insulted by his actions and “pissed” about the Pubs not gaining the seat.

Huff Post among others reporting this story.
