There is no need to post a study on that. It is without question that closing schools down was a disaster. Arguably the biggest public health disaster of our lifetime. No study is necessary for that.

What is the point of a study on lockdowns that we know harmed kids? We know they harmed families. We know they were the wrong decision.

It is not opinion. In is the common sense and the consensus. Thank goodness I lived in Florida through this. It could have been far worse. I understand you lived in great fear. And with that supported some of the worst and most damaging policies possible. Like lockdowns and keeping kids out of school.

No study is needed to know how bad those policies were. We are seeing the results daily. Test scores/mental illness/etc etc etc

 

Over 1,300 current and retired teachers died from COVID as of July of this year. This includes nearly 500 active teachers, as well as many school admin and support staff. And again, I have linked two, peer reviewed, scientific studies showing that shutting down schools reduced the spread of COVID. It begs the question, how many teacher and school staff lives were saved because schools were closed and COVID spread was reduced?

Yes, there was damage done to kids who were forced to do online schooling. I have a child currently in 4th grade and one now a senior in high school. The high schooler was ok academically, but it was difficult not being able to spend time doing any school activities, as she is in choir and does color guard in the band. The elementary school kid? Very difficult to get any real learning done.

But compare that to someone losing his or her life? What's more important? And how will the kids be effected if they are in school, but have a teacher die from COVID? Or Principal? Or parent, because schools were open and COVID was spreading at a higher rate?

As Dr. Fauci said, it's a balancing act. You have to put the effect of schools closing on the kids with the effect of the virus spreading and causing serious illness and deaths. Back before the vaccine, and no good treatments, erring on the side of caution and keeping schools closed, which studies showed decreased the spread of COVID, was the logical decision. Today? With the vaccine which does a good job at reducing the risk of serious illness and death, it's a different story. Viral spread and hospital stays would have to be extremely high to consider closing things down. Which is what Fauci said in the original link, for the most part.

This just further reinforces my long-held position that DeS is just like DT in that he surrounds himself with people that tell him what he wants to hear and he is not open to thoughtful consideration of facts. fauci has not used balance once since his fame screwed him up. What at dumb stat about 1300 teachers dying. It is a terrible virus that killed in far higher numbers in other professions. Go back again and read what Fauci says about school closings today. Tell me he isn't saying balance is important.

The stat that's pertinent isn't the number of teachers who died. It's the number of people, teachers and school workers included, who didn't die because schools were closed. And again, multiple, peer reviewed articles published in respected scientific journals confirm that closing schools helped prevent the spread of the virus.

No excuses. During the winter and spring of 2020, the goal was the prevent spread of a deadly virus, because we had no way to treat it, and for far too many, getting sick was a death sentence. By the summer of 2020, several studies had proven closing schools to be an effective measure in help reducing the spread of COVID. It made sense that in areas of high spread to close schools during the fall and winter. In areas with low spread, no need to keep schools closed as the virus wasn't spreading much in the area, and the reduction in spread keeping schools closed would be minimal. More important to have kids in schools.

Come January, 2021, when the vaccine became available for front line workers like anyone who worked in schools, that changed the calculus again. And now, while COVID can still be nasty, if everyone was vaccinated, it would likely be no deadlier than the flu. Annoying, but something we can deal with.

But you stick to your opinion, without evidence, that you are correct. And you are truly "following the science," despite the fact that multiple, peer reviewed articles published in well respected journals tell a completely different story. It makes for great comedy.

 

Your support for the arguably the worst public health policy decision in history speaks for itself. The results and data show daily how wrong you have been on this. You even admit the harm done to your kids who at the end of the day are blessed to have you as their parent and advantages many kids do not just like my kids are blessed to have me as their parent with similar advantages. No doubt we will continue to disagree.

 

It would be funnier if it was a fictional character on TV. It's kind of depressing when you realize there really are people this convinced of the reality of what they believe.

 

Now that we know all 1.2 million excess deaths, 2020 to present, can be attributed to the effects of panic, on the part of public health .... *yawns* ... time to move on I guess. No biggie. Stop bellyaching about it.

We certainly disagree. It is going to be arguably one of the worst public health decisions in history. Crazy enough the one size fits all approach to Covid shots will be in that same argument. Amazing we screwed up two public health policy decisions so badly in the same pandemic.

 

Saw part of a Fauci interview today with Lester Holt. What a fine man he is. I can see why the psychological makeup of some small-minded (even jealous) folks can't see that and feel it necessary at every turn to attack him.

 

I actually believe that Florida isn't the gold standard for how to deal with covid. My belief is based on our per capita deaths being way above average, and our age-adjusted per capita deaths being average. Do you have any evidence that would suggest Florida is the gold standard for dealing with covid?
