Much bigger crowd than a high school game, and still a large TV audience (relative to in person spectators) Either way, let thenplayers play and give it their all. Bowls used to be considered rewards for the players long before the BCS and Playoffs...
I do agree that we will have to wait at least 2 additional years to fairly judge the job BN is doing in cleaning up the mess he inherited from DM. He has undertaken a bold program designed to rebuild both the roster and the team culture, and his results in that effort will go a long way in determining his eventual success or failure as the HC at UF. But I strongly disagree with the underlying proposition of the "the falling sky" narrative being floated by some. In reality, the departure of so many unproductive or disaffected Mullen recruits is a direct result of multiple factors and failures that occurred in the past, not in the here and now. Several others have stated clearly and succinctly how lazy, unprofessional and intellectually dishonest Dan Mullen was in a number of areas - but most especially in recruiting and talent evaluation. It has also been noted by others that the free covid year that came without a commiserate increase in the 85-scholarship limit virtually guaranteed that noncontributors (or the generally disgruntled) were going to be leaving or forced out in droves. That is exactly what's happening now. To suggest that we are in the midst of a calamity because of the massive house cleaning that is currently in progress misses the point entirely. The roof has been in the process of caving in for years. What we are seeing now is the beginning of the arduous task of rebuilding the entire house on a solid foundation, from the ground up.
Seems like every reference from Napier regarding Max has implied that he is a project player that hasn't yet learned the system. I guess if he is now QB1 it will be a simplified game plan. What's going on with Miller, anyway? We haven't heard a peep about him since the thumb surgery that was supposed to keep him out three weeks.
The players take it easy on each other in the Senior Bowl. Not much risk there -- has anybody ever had a major injury in that game?
That's a really good question re Miller. I suppose that Miller will probably start, but he's absolutely been the invisible man since the injury occurred. With Kitna now out of the picture, we should get some idea of just how badly we actually need a portal QB to bridge the gap to the Rashada era. I'll definitely be glued to the TV screen for that little glimpse into the future of the QB situation.
Haven't we always been told that when you let off athletically, that's when you get hurt, though? But, I get your point. They do practice all week, and, supposedly they're there for the scouts, so, you'd think they would show max effort. Strange bowl game.
No chance this will be remotely competitive. In fact it will be embarrassing to the Florida brand. But we need to play in it to contribute to the pool of bowl money as we get a nice net later.
These are the young players buried behind the 2nd and 3rd stringers who are now transferring out. Play every freshmen we have tog et experience, they wont burn a redshirt for one game.
Not much fun to watch, but, it seems to be important to the players. I guess it's a kind of a pre-combine with the scouts present. I have one criteria as to whether I will watch a game, or not. I have to care who wins.
Interesting - I’ve found that often times I enjoy not caring who wins. That is in fact what has me enjoying watching the MFL again
