So, if Lagway commits to Napier tomorrow as many expect, will Sully give him the opportunity to also play baseball? Lagway has stated that he hopes to play both sports at the collegiate level. I haven't been able to find much information on him aside from football. I did read though that he has received several P5 offers including some from SEC schools.

If he can play both sports like Bo Jackson I say let him.

If not he should concentrate on one.

I thought Sully wasn’t big on two sport guys. He’d miss a ton of practice, all of fall ball. What’s more important during the spring, football practice or playing baseball?

    This is Florida.

Football is WAY more important than Fall baseball. Even if they suck,

And spring football is much more important than regular season baseball.

    Again even if they suck.

I don't like it but it is what it is.

The usual rub that I’ve seen encountered is the Coach of the sport supplying the scholarship money doesn’t particularly like that his player can possibly get hurt playing “the other sport” and be a loss to him.

Everybody wants this kid and USC has making a big, last minute push. We need to start landing some of these 5 star prospects.

If any kid like that is on campus the baseball staff will always look. But yes it is extremely hard to see any kid get significant playing time playing two sports at major d1 college level. In last 30 years at UF it has happened on rare instances but over all impact was minimal in either sport. Seeing a kid have a superstar impact in both those sports at same time just does not happen unless that kid is a rare talent. The type of talent that you can literally throw on the field and they just produce. I certainly remember Frank Thomas for example. But if any kid wants to try then fine but again in the end I think most kids end up just doing one sport because they figure out it is really tough to balance academics with practice time for two sports that are basically year around sports:

Give him whatever it takes to get him committed. He, apparently, is that special.

Add in that being a QB makes it even more difficult to perform double duty. I could see him trying baseball as a RS freshman, but doubt it oes beyond that

Best bet is if he is a relief pitcher IMO

Gavin Dickey (2005-baseball/football) was the last two sport player I remember-he was a backup in football and played LF on the baseball team.

Yep, most memorable feat was exploding a bat in front of my travel team lol

He never really excelled in either sport, have to think trying both was counterproductive....but I can hardly blame him if he loves both. I probably would have tried too if I was that talented. But it's just virtually impossible in todays world, both are full time jobs

I seem to remember a football player that played 1st base for us. Maybe in the 90's.
Like Aaron Walker in '99. Played some 1st base and DH his freshman year while redshirting on the football side. I believe that was his only season playing baseball before concentrating on football and eventually making the NFL.

Lagway just committed to the Gators on ESPN2. He is in the 2024 class, though, and a lot can happen between now and official signing day in December 2023.

I remember Rodney Brewer in the mid 80's who played QB for the Gators, plus played OF for the baseball team and actually played several years in the majors.
John Rhys Plumlee, the QB for UCF, also plays baseball and did both while he was at Ole Miss.

According to OnlyGators.com Staff, "He has also been offered the opportunity to play baseball at Florida, though it’s unknown whether he will ultimately choose to be a two-sport athlete."
