Wonder if the coaching staff has already had their post season meeting with each of the players and whether that triggered the exodus on December 5?
Up to 26! As of today, if we take in 30 recruits, we would be only 4 over the limit. So, at the minimum, 4 more will be leaving the program.
For sure, yes. What triggered it, respectfully to the players, is that they aren't good enough to play. Some players are perhaps "leaving"...IMO, nearly all of these players have been told they won't be playing much, so it's been a mutual decision. On a bigger level, what is triggering this across the country at all schools, is that rosters still have a lot players with an extra covid year. There is a cluster of 5th-year RS Jr's and 4th year RS Sophomores that are not playing, but still have eligibility remaining.
And the ones on premier rosters are dead weight. We can’t afford to have older guys that will never play meaningful snaps. We have to get younger guys with potential.
Chief going to the portal? He was such a positive force in the off season. A great recruiter. And now leaving? My guess is that he was advised to leave. He was less of a force on the field than I had anticipated. He was just too pro-Gator to be leaving on his own, don’t you think?
I can see him going out to Stanford like he was originally going to before picking the Gators. He has always put education high on the list. Looking at his transfer tweet, he made a point to thank all those helping him at the Hawkins center. Stanford will have a new coach and that guy will need players.
Plus the fact that good players leave for the NFL now after their Junior or redshirt sophomore years. So, as a result, good teams usually have to be young teams now, unless you're hitting the Portal Potty for talent a lot.
Thanks, I was missing Harrod, and I never had Ortiz on scholly. So, if we take 30....then 3 more must move on.
You have been saying that your 30 number includes the portal but from the looks of it we may take 30 guys just from HS. So to bring in portal players we would need a lot more than 3.
Correct, I am using 30 as a baseline. I took that from a recent article on GC that said we'd be taking 30. Of course, if we take 35, then add 5 more, so we'd have to see attrition of 8. And so on and so forth. It's a moving number just for the sake of conversation.
I think you have to do all of the above unless you can recruit top one or two every single year like Alabama or Georgia has done
We guarantee 4 year schollies right? So a player can’t be forced out, technically? They can be told they won’t play but they could stay if they wanted to, right?
6 Freshmen and 8 Sophomores are on the exit list. Total of 14 for those two classes. This total does not appear to be a big hit. Could be like normal attrition. On the good side, only 4 O-linemen (1 a Freshman) are leaving. We could have 18 O-linemen returning next season. The Gator O-line showed a lot of growth as the season progressed. We should have a great running game next year. Lets hope that we can pick up a good QB via the portal to create a passing threat too.
