As stated above, FAMs do not reveal themselves for those type of occurrences.

When weren’t planes safe? How have air Marshalls made them safe?

They’ve been safe since 9/11 was what I was saying.

But the air Marshalls have been around for decades before then. Honestly, I don’t know what they are supposed to do.

Sure, you can object, but it you intend to disobey, you should resign. Lawful orders must be obeyed.

lawful orders must be obeyed ? FAMs are not DoD. They are not bound by the UCMJ.

With the rise of unruly airline passengers not sure I agree. It’s ridiculous to have to rely on a combination of airline stewardesses and passengers to “detain” a passenger until a plane makes an emergency landing. Should at least be someone to put them in cuffs once they are controlled.

Though as someone above suggested, the air marshal might not “reveal” themselves in such a scenario unless absolutely necessary. I was sort of under that impression too (although I admit this could be wrong). But if that’s the way it works it should be changed such that they handle any and all on board incidents, not just sitting around waiting for the rare “terrorist”. I agree if they are just staying undercover all the time that is rather nonsensical.

FAMs have very low numbers and those numbers are confidential. The program is a designed deterrent against a very narrow threat, not a direct action LE agency meant to handcuff the guy that yells at another passenger. It’s disingenuous to divide the budget by number of arrests. The B-2 and now B-21 are deterrents. How many weopons have been delivered in a B-2 that could have been delivered B-1 or B-52 at a fraction of the cost. Other than night 1 of desert storm have we ‘used’ the stealth ?

Lawful in the colloquial and broad sense. They are in a chain of command.

they are DHS and, like every other DHS employee, subject to direction by the head of that department to perform any task required by DHS, including helping secure the border.

Can you provide one instance in the past 20 years where an air marshall has intervened to prevent a terror attack?

Probably none, but to be fair, those stories usually aren't aired.

lol, I can guarantee you that if an air marshall had to intervene in an infight situation to prevent a terror attack that it would lead the newscast on every channel..likely be on youtube or tiktok before the plane was deboarded

There are 2 separate issues here. The issue at hand is whether it is reasonable to redirect air marshals to the border. While I can’t speak to the legalities I suspect if I were one I’d refuse also, and let the chips fall where they may.

Now a completely separate issue is whether air marshalls are productive and effective. Whether they are or aren’t has little bearing on the appropriateness of shipping them to the border.

Now they could decide to eliminate the air Marshall positions amd give them a chance to take jobs at the border.

Really; so you would have lined up little kids and old ladies and shot them because your supreme commander ordered you to. You would murder little Comachee 8 year old boys tied up because you were ordered to. I don’t have enough data to judge these folks. This is pretty serious insubordination; I have to believe there’s a reason beyond what we’re being told.

I suspect you weren’t as pointed in your statement as you are as a person. I don’t believe that kind of evil still exists in the US. The kind that justified running down escaped slaves because of a Nazi-type law. I would have passed a law in a northern state if I had tha power to shoot any slave hunter on site.

Reading comprehension problem there? Did you even read what I wrote? I said: "They are ultimately employees of the US Government and should go where the government lawfully sends them."

It obviously would not be lawful to line up little kids and shoot them. Did somebody piss in your corn flakes today?
