Situation is everything in the league. If he lands somewhere that plays to his strengths, he could be successful. I hope he goes later in the draft and can sit and learn behind someone. There are so many bad teams this year looking for a QB that he could end up in a bad situation and not work out just due to the coaching staff or team surrounding him.
No, he's not in the portal. I think he'd be a grad transfer, but might opt for the NFL instead of sticking around CFB.
Mathis started the season against Arkansas that year, only after he played poorly did Bennett get the job. He threw 3-4 picks against Bama that year and got sat down again. He got hurt against UF, but also threw 2 picks if I'm not mistaken. He's actually played poorly against UF each year, he's just had a defense give him every chance to win the game. 2021 he threw 2 first half picks and if not for the meltdown before half its a 3-0 game at half. This year he single handely kept UF in it by throwing 2 second half interceptions. He had one in the first half that Torrence dropped and another that went off Burneys hands to Bowers for a 75 yard TD. The margin of error is much greater for someone like him, because his defense will keep them in any game. If you watch him closely, he throws several head scratching balls each game. Bama beats them both games last year if not for the WR injuries they had, in part because Bennett turned the ball over multiple times both games. He had a Jameis Winston type fumble in that title game, that would have cost them the game, if not for their defense. Let's also not forget he lost his job to JT daniels to start 2021 as well. Daniels got hurt in the 2nd game and thats when Bennett got the job. I just have a very strong feeling that almost any QB could be put in that offense and do what he's done. Even most UGA fans still think he's the weakest link on their team.
Our thread on him is already 16 pages long. It would be pretty damn selfish of him to opt for the NFL at this point.
I’d take Bennett all day long and twice on Sunday. Go back 2 years and look at he and EJ. Bennett is a leader and wins at high levels. Several 5 star qb’s couldn’t unseat him.
Because of all the work we are putting in here. We even made nicknames for him, like …um …well, Hartman the dart man. Ooh, that was actually pretty good. See what I mean? It’s clearly too late to turn back now.
Didn’t Hartman have a medical issue ? From my understanding he barely cleared to play this past year due to blood clots
If we are comparing him to Emory Jones, ok. Who are the several 5 stars that couldn't unseat him? Jt Daniels? Well he did unseat Bennett and was the starter twice before injury. He left, and he's looked pretty average at best for WVU. Bennett is a leader, I won't deny that at all, I would expect a 25 year old in college to show some leadership skills. My point was to show that the situation and team he is on, has allowed him to he successful. He is not the reason that team is probably going to win back to back titles. He is not a player you could remove from UGA and put at UF and we all of a sudden win 10 games. If you put him on USC, do they make the Pac 12 title game, hell no. If your defense is an A++ you can afford to have a C+ at QB.
Fromm and Bennett were both steady long term UGA starters that made few mistakes and out their team in position to win. Two 5 star QBs transferred due to Fromm and their inability to beat him for job. Not sure about Bennett’s competition
Bennett is not a heisman type player. Kirby should have benched him last year for a younger qb. But obviously it worked out fine for them last year but that was because of their historic defense. This year Bennett’s is better but uga just has better talent than anyone else they are playing. Kirby still plays not too loose on offense he’s just blessed with so much talent it doesn’t matter. When’s the last game they asked Bennett to win a game for them?
He is a game manager, which isn't a bad thing. He might have helped us in some games this year, but I don't see him pulling out the Utah game. He wouldn't have outscored Tennesse or LSU. He is a good fit for Georgia who don't need a lot out of their QB.
Exactly. The previous poster is wrong. He is nott asked to do much. Can’t read a field that well but fortunately his first read is usually open or just better than the guy covering him.
Did you watch the championship game last year? He was dropping dimes. I agree, the talented defense helps but I wouldn’t call him average. He’s improved a lot since 2020.
A lot of that has to do with the coaching perspective. Kirby doesn’t want a gun slinger, he wants to rely on his insanely loaded defense. Exactly what Saban used to do, until it got figured out. Let’s not act like Bennett is “unseating 5 stars” because he’s willing to hand the ball off more and mesh into the coaches perspective more than the truly talented guys who actually have dreams at the next level.
Not bad for a walk on!!! Brock Vandagriff 5 stars #2 ranked in class. Jt. Daniels 5 stars #2 ranked in class. If better than Bennett Kirby would have inserted in line up. Wasn’t hurt forever. Bennett was better than him anyway. Gunner Stockton high 4 star (.95) Carson Beck 4 stars
