Looks like some pubs and Dems are going to try to pass a DACA compromise before the Dems lose the House. This would include beefing up border security to get a few pubs on board. Would be nice to see this passed. Senators draft bipartisan framework to legalize DACA recipients and extend Trump-era border policy | CNN Politics
Looking only at the brief description, there's a lot there I would prefer not to be enacted, like the extension of Title 42 and increase funding for Border Patrol. But I like the compromise given how difficult it has been to pass any meaningful legislation on immigration. I recognize that my opinions on the issue are deeply in the minority.
Title 42 is a bullshit policy. But if extending it a year results in Dreamers getting status and citizenship, it's worth it.
Yeah, quite a bit of doubling down on a bad system that is a constant money pit for no purpose joined by fixing one of the problems caused by that system (for now). Better than nothing, given that I would prefer to fix the harm caused by the system to nothing, but, yeah, it would be better if we stopped pretending that we are just $x billion from fixing the system and "securing the boarder" (sic). Maybe the failure of the next set of tens of billions will convince more people.
