At what point could BN say there is too much roster turnover to play in the bowl game? We all want to see a competitive game but this is looking like a blowout waiting to happen?
Excellent point. As a coach I suppose you could use this as a spring game and see who is read to ball when spring practice cranks up. Really evaluate guys who don’t see the field, maybe find that diamond in the rough.
Yes, I think it’s going to be a blowout. I’m not sure Napier can do anything to retain players until after the bowl game. Perhaps there should be a rule that you can’t enter the portal until after your bowl game, but players don’t want to risk injury.
Until after Bowl game may not be so-able but before end of season should be reasonable. Maybe some walk-ons will wind up playing. We have around 20 right?
So far Florida has 4 starters leaving early for the NFL draft. The remaining transfer portal players either didn't play much or at all.
Its a simple fix really, no portal until after the Bowl games and playoffs are over. Eventually a team in the playoffs will lose a starter or two to the portal...
2.9 million payout for going to a bowl, cut the SEC a check for that and we can stay home, otherwise it's time to suck it up.
No bowl game would allow us to host visitors the day before ESD. Might be worth it to opt out if we can't be competitive, if we don't even have enough guys to practice and we risk closing on some big time players. Just a thought. I kinda don't care either way.
Doesn't work. The playoffs don't end until the second week of January. There won't be time to enroll for the spring semester.
The reason the portal opens the Monday after Championship weekend is because technically the football season is over and the scholarship is fulfilled. The semester is over on the 16th.
Good point, maybe its time to move the calendar up in the year. Start in August, finish New Year's day.
Only when it hits the Gumps and tOSU and LegHumpers and other schools the play-offs exist to mainly promote will any "pressure" be applied to the NCAA to do away with the unrestricted free agency it has created. North Carolina? Nah. LOL!
LOL The NCAA did add a restriction, the two portal windows. It's about all they can do without being sued.
If we get blown out because the third string DT transferred we were getting blown out regardless. Some of you guys need to just take a deep breath and relax
Maybe the players that remain want to play the Bowl Game. Meanwhile CBN is restocking with better product (talent). Let’s Go Gators!
Yes but they should be able to do more. For example, there was a requirement to sit out a year for any transfer for a long, long time and the NCAA never was worried about getting sued. Give a free transfer and require any subsequent transfers to sit a year. That will immediately impact the wild west we're seeing start now. Besides, if the fear of a lawsuit is enough then just abolish the impotent NCAA, IMO.
The rule now is one transfer and sit the second for a year unless you're a grad transfer or get a waiver.
