The only point he attempted to make that I might agree with is take the best passer whoever that may be. I love running as that extra dimension but the passer almost always wins out.

Disagree. DJ is the 2nd best QB in this class IMO …and not to Merklinger. If we ended up with Merk I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed …but Lagway would be the unquestioned leader of the team. He’s the real deal.

    I posted about Merklinger a while back. He's not a plan "B" he's a plan A2.

I'll say this right now. If don't sign Lagway then I would be just fine and happy to land Merklinger.

But the thing about Lagway that puts him over the top is the other recruits that want to play with him and that means more star commits at other positions. And even thought I think Merklinger is an A2 and not plan "B" he still doesn't command the gravitas in the recruiting world that Lagway is getting.

But if we miss on Lagway I sincerely hope we land Merklinger.

whether you call him plan B or A2, it's Lagway or we whiffed plain and simple. Listen, this will be Billy's 2nd full term recruiting cycle and my expectation are set at top 5 class and Lagway needs to be the headliner.

True, he's down to deciding between only two schools, and if we don't land him that's not a good look or a good position to be in as a coach of a flagship University like Florida.

Lagway will bring along lots of talent to the school that he signs with, that much is for sure. And he is the top QB for us. But talent wise? We shall see. He's more athletic than Merklinger is. But which one will be the best QB in college football?

This is one of those recruiting debates that will not be fully answered until years from now.

Indeed. If we get DJ and he doesn't live up to the billing but Merk goes somewhere and turns out to be all conference, I won't feel bad about it cause that happens. I'm with you on why/how a Lagway commitment could/should have a ripple effect for our 2024 class on the offensive side of the ball even before he steps foot on the field.

whoever is a Major Applewhite type. Don't have the be the best athlete, but if he has command of the O and can make us effective by simply moving the ball and can be trustworthy, sign me up. If that's Hartman or whoever, sign me up!!

The portal QB list is gonna be fascinating. Watching for guys like McCall at Coastal, Pratt at Tulane, Hartman, Hudson Card, the UVA kid, does Maye go in, etc. Can Nussmeier and Walker Howard stay at LSU? Going to be wild

Agree. With Florida's lack of success and so many of our rivals thriving I have to admit I have become a petty hater. I worry more about fsu, Tennessee, Georgia, Bama etc finding replacements that keep them from having an off season.

I'll enjoy football more when we get back to our winning ways instead of having to rely on Schadenfreude. I'll go take my beating for being a crappy fan now.

Sounds good to me. Needs to be a proven guy with 1 year left. I would think it's not a large group. It would be nice if we already have him in pocket to announce right after AR's decision.

I think UF will be an attractive option for a one year guy...unless Miller tears up the bowl game, which wouldn't be the worst thing either. Regardless, let's not forget we have an elite guy in Reshada and I think we land an even more elite guy in Lagway. QB will be in good hands moving forward.

Lagway as a commit puts us in SERIOUS play for Jeremiah Smith and Joshisa Trader. OSU will be tough to beat for those two but this is big game huntin!!

He’s a junior, still learning and having to study more football. He’ll know by the time he reaches GC Hall of Fame status.
