So? Of course teams would rather have Mahomes but he doesn’t grow on trees. Teams would much rather have Jackson, Allen, or Hurts for 5 elite years then live in the typical QB wasteland
The "no way AR is a 1st rounder" crowd seems to miss this. Who's he competing with? I haven't watched much of Levis but was not impressed with what I have seen.
Yeah but he might get hurt in college!!!! I agree, he should come back and get better. He only has 1 year's experience as a starter.
I hope so too but reality tells me that either you have ‘it’ or you don’t. Simply the facts. See Trask.
Yeah, I’ll bet he’ll be tripping over himself to get back to campus for a degree after he goes to the NFL. Get your degree young man, get a little better and enjoy your college experience. The money will be there.
Lots of NFL guys have come back and finished up, Emmitt Smith for one. The money won't always be there.
Fwiw.... Chris Mortenson was just on NFL Sunday Countdown and was reading off a list of QB draft hopefuls. When he got to AR he said, "I've spoken to multiple NFL GMs who all said that Richardson needs another year in the college game before coming out......"
They have said the same about plenty of QBs. Not that they’re wrong, but it will take more than this to change AR’s mind.
The team that hands him a $25 signing bonus deserves the pain that they get. That's an insane amount to hand out for potential when there are proven winners at a lot of positions would could possibly justify that amount. I could forsee him going mid-second round and getting a $2 million bonus and a $1.5 million annual contract. That would make sense. When you draft someone in the first round, there will be enormous pressure for the player to perform quickly and for the coaches to get them on the field as soon as possible. Richardson won't be ready for prime time for at least two years. That said, there are enough insanely stupid GMs in the NFL who will never learn. It's like watching a bass go for the worm on a hook minutes after being thrown back for doing the same thing. "This time will be different!!!"
Better to have 5 years than nothing but the guys winning super bowls will continue to do it from the pocket. Jackson got shutdown in the playoffs last year. Sure, making the playoffs for a while is better than being the Bears or Browns but winning it all is what it’s all about. Get a guy tgat can win from the pocket or be an also ran.
You know, I looked at this in another thread and I don't think it's really true. Since mobile QBs started getting drafted again, 7 mobile QBs and 15 pocket QBs have made the Super Bowl. If we remove Tom Brady, it's 7 to 9. 5 wins for the pocket passers, 2for mobile QBs. And 3 of those wins are by Mannings. This idea that mobile QBs can't win isn't really backed by reality - which is there's only been a bit over a decade of the mobile QB renaissance and minus HOF veteran QBs, it's nearly even on SB wins (Stafford, Flacco, Foles versus Mahomes and Wilson). Also, the guy who kicked off the renaissance - Cam Newton - was running plenty through his last season. Mahomes is in his 6th season and has his highest YPA ever this year. You get plenty of mileage out of a mobile QB.
