Just fashionable I think. Don’t believe it has a single broadly accepted meaning.

What Does It Mean if an American Flag Has Different Colors?

What Does An All-Black Flag Mean?
To this day, there does not seem to be one specific symbol behind an all-black American Flag.

In general, black flags are used by enemy forces to signify that enemy combatants are going to be killed rather than taken prisoner—essentially, the opposite of the white flag used to represent surrender. This is also sometimes referred to as “give no quarter.”

Most black American flags are entirely black, meaning that stars and stripes become almost impossible to see. For this reason, you may also see them on military fatigues, so that soldiers can show respect for their country without drawing attention to themselves with bright colors.

That would be an all black flag. I'm referring to the black and white or black and grey flags that I've been seeing

Black American Flag, What Is The Meaning Of The Black American Flag? - News

    Black American Flag Origin
The black American Flag was initially introduced as a symbol of defence in the 18th Century. But at present, it symbolizes the original meaning as "Blue Lives Matter" supporters and have put their twist and turns to discredit the Black Lives Matter movement. Mostly all of the American Flags are black, with no other features in it or on the other hand, it's completely black and white, but still, certain flags will be represented with black and red stripes and blue squares.

My thread wasn't about this flag, but things are starting to get out of hand at this point

Ha Ha you are closer than you think. You will like this I'm sure. I have told the story here before.

Back in the early 90's my wife wrecked her Chevy Blazer. I was between jobs and we weren't quite ready to buy a new car yet so I started looking for a nice used car. One day I saw this cute little white Chevrolet Cavalier with a rainbow sticker in the rear window by the side of the road with a for sale sign on it. My wife liked the car and at the time we had no idea what a rainbow decal meant so I bought it for her. We drove that car for over 2 years. One day I pulled up in front of a 7-11 store and someone in the parking lot told me what the rainbow meant. I drove home and asked my wife if she was ready for a new car yet.
