Is this a legit story ? I’ve never heard of the website prior To today Switzerland, Facing an Unprecedented Power Shortage, Contemplates a Partial Ban on the Use of Electric Vehicles
Looks like it is contingency planning in electrical shortages in times when it hits level 3 measures which is quite severe. It’s akin to gas rationing but down the line. Let’s put this in context of other limitations they are planning: Golem.de: IT-News für Profis
guess it’s real. Article says 60% from hydroelectric, 30% from nuclear and rather than build More they are shutting down and the remaining 10% is fossil fuels AND renewables. Seems like really poor planning. What did they think would happen ? But I guess if this is what they want and voted for so be it
Whether that website is legit or not - one thing's for certain; you can't trust the Swiss. I bought some of their cheese at the deli the other day -- filled with holes. No discounted price for all that 'unaccounted for' cheese, either. Something's fishy in the Alps.... So on today's trip to the deli I bought American cheese - nice, full squares... soft, rounded edges - and orange - as cheese was meant to be. So screw 'em - and their accurate to the millisecond chronometers. They can use them to accurately determine the next time I WON'T be buying cheese that looks like it was processed with a 12-gauge.
Under the proposal the use of electric vehicles would limited only in the event of an extreme emergency and if we're going to be accurate the title of the thread could have just as well been entitled "Swiss considering ban of Blue Ray players and gaming computers". From the original linked article:
I know that there is much better public transportation in Switzerland. I think this would be a minor inconvenience at the worst.
There may be some downsides to electric cars. I’m all for them but they raise the burden on power grids, and a vast majority of batteries are and will continue to be made in China for over a decade.
Those monsters won’t allow you to stream in HD on Level 2 restrictions. 480p is like going back to the Stone Age.
