imagine if football had that rule, ball halfway out is still alive.and yes, i knew the rule, just looked all out to me.
Imo that terrible penalty kick took the life from Ghana. Just felt morale was different and then going down two goals, I get why they did what they did. Seeing Suarez crying on the sideline must have been worth it.
As we enter the knockout stages, I hope FIFA reconsiders the format they have planned for 2026. At current, there will be 48 countries in 2026, up from 32. And instead of 4 teams per group, there will be 16 groups of 3, with the top 2 in each group going through to a round of 32 knockout. This means, gone will be simultaneous Match Day 3 where there are 2 games in the group going on at the same time. Which stinks. These last four days have been the best in sports, high drama, with each goal having huge implications. Very entertaining. I hope FIFA decides to go with 12 groups of 4, with top 2 in each group going through, and the top eight 3rd place teams. FIFA used to have a similar set up before 1998, when there were only 24 teams in the WC, with 6 groups of 4. Sixteen teams would advance, with the top 2 in each, and top 4 third place finishers. It's how the US advanced in 1994, finishing third in the group, but with 4 points.
This is why I love the World Cup. How else would you ever get beef between a West African and South American country? BTW, why was that Korean dude wearing a bra?
years ago suarez went mike tyson on a player in the premier league.
Thank you. That's what I get for sticking my nose into a soccer thread.
Players aren't allowed to wear any jewelry. Or have anything that isn't uniform on the outside. Players wear the bra under the uniform to hide a fit bit or another fitness tracker.
years ago suarez went mike tyson on a player in the premier league.
I thought it referred to the Uruguayan rugby team that crashed in the Andes in 1972, who resorted to cannibalism to survive two months in harsh conditions.
Yeah, the Dutch are able to match our midfield and are just better in the center upfront (Memphis compared with Ferrerira) and in the center in the back (van Dijk compared to Ream).
Move this thread to the Den and let’s discuss who we should fire and start calling each other names! The mods have had it to easy today so far!
I think the US did pretty well. Second youngest team with most of the team playing in the cup for the first time. A new generation of household names. Future looks great
Tyler Adam's nailed today in his post game interview. When we made a mistake, the Netherlands punished us by putting the ball in the back of the net. On the Dutch mistakes, we didn't capitalize. The difference was in those margins. But the future? Never brighter for the USMNT. First World Cup for 25 out of 26 of the players in the roster, and most will still be under 30 years old in 2026, when we get to play at home. Getting to the knockout round this year but coming up short should prove to be great experience, and a great motivator.
Never know what is going to happen in 4 years, so you never want to chalk things up as learning experiences when you are talking about 4 year windows, but we are currently young. Now, we need to develop, find a Central Defense combination, and a number 9. In addition, we need to develop a bit more depth.
