At this point I would prefer only those that will be here beyond this season to play in the bowl game. If that means we field a team with massive amounts of youth and inexperience then lose, so be it. I would rather not waste the 15 practice opportunities and live action on the field to help us get ready for spring & SLC next fall.
I would imagine the guys that are transferring won’t be participating and more than likely the ones declaring are opting out. So aside from those that want to stay, but will be processed out, there’s not much left.
If it's the las Vegas bowl the team will be lucky to get in 10 practices. Still have to adhere to the 4 hr a day 20 hr a week rule. That time includes workouts, meetings and film study as well as practice. The 15 practices always came from playing in a late December bowl.
Agreed. I guess I was getting at …what we would have left could mean the results on the field may not be pretty. But that really isn’t the goal in this case.
Yea, all uncharted territory as far as the amount of portal activity. I guess it would be better to be matched up with a team with a bunch of attrition.
Gear up for a 7 man football bowl game, going Really Old School. This Just In! Hard shell helmets optional.
For teams like Florida, these meaningless bowl games just mean an extra ‘L’ on our record since a lot of players don’t seem to care about the game. As a fan, I’m torn. Part of me wants the youth to play and see the team one more time, extra practices etc. while part of me could do without the extra losses on our record every year.
Following this up. I just read an article that said a minimum of 53 scholarship players out of 85 to play a game. This was installed during the COVID year for safety.
Nah the practices and evaluation prior to the off-season are paramount to this team getting better, students buying in further, Napier addressing needs, etc. We need every bit we can get when it comes to practice
That the number that's been bandied around for our 2023 total recruiting class number. I think it could end up being more with the new portal rules that made two Transfer Portal periods. One of then starts on December 5th and it lasts for 45 days, and the other one starts in May 1st though the 15th. We could end up with more than 27 new players... that remains to be seen. The Transfer Portal is the wildcard. College football transfer portal tracker: Best players moving in 2023
We ALL would like to finish over 500. But 6-7 / 7-6 is splitting hairs in my mind. If we had a streak worth meaning something (like we once did), I could see it. Now, it’s all about the future. Get the boys ready for 2023.
Yea, the future of bowl games outside of the CFP is uncertain…basically the NIT with transfers not playing and any player that are sniffing the draft opting out.
It will be interesting to see if they become glorified scrimmages with travel and fun, or if the bowls come up with money to pay players.
