Like it or not, college football is a business now (if it ever wasn't). If AR opts out, it wouldn't surprise me, but it would indicate large-scale sentimentality for your alma mater is basically dead in college football at this point.
Do I understand correctly that if Miller can no longer redshirt, he would lose a year of eligibility by playing in the bowl game?
Take the bowl practices at this point, and I'd look to the portal to add even more depth at QB for next season. I just have a feeling that Napier is not yet confident in the guys behind AR, though he'd obviously never say that. We need "ready-to-start" depth yesterday at QB.
The association is there. A QB at UF has been charged with some pretty bad stuff. Is it a fair association? Hell no. But it's something that will be talked about before and during the bowl game. And AR has absolutely nothing to gain by this. Disagree all you want, but rationally, playing in the bowl game if he's declared is a bad move.
For bonus credit, who was the coach. Hint: Galen Hall had been fired forhelping a player with a child support payment
If it falls on Jack Miller to start at QB so be it. I know he didn’t have a great Spring game but he was working with the number twos the majority of the time. A lot of people on this site have the opinion that he is no option, but I think he may be pretty good, given the chance. I thought I saw a few weeks ago that Engle had decided to enter the portal as a graduate student. I realize he is a walk on but seems to posses some serious football savvy and ability. Did I dream this? Seriously, I’m asking.
Since Miller was injured most of the year (if not all of it), would he not be qualified for a medical redshirt?
I’m sure Billy has a pretty good idea whether AR is going to play the bowl or not. The answer is not.
If AR is going to leave we need to move on. Let’s find out if we have anything to work with for next year. Next year is more important than this one game. Even if AR played we could still lose and still have no ideal about next years QB
My gut tells me he can be serviceable when healthy with a good team around him. By no means a game-changer. I'll take that in one backup every time. In an ideal world, you have your starter, your game-ready backup, and your QB of the future; but more often than not circumstances are not ideal.
After UF, Darnell was DC at ND, before moving to TX. And I believe Galen was OC at Penn State. But not sure if there was another stop in between. (Why can’t the crap I can remember be profitable.)
Just looked it up. Correct on Darnell as DC immediately after UF but hall's next gig was with the Thunder. Penn state came later
I remember that the Auburn game was bad, but we played FSU very closely in the last game on the turf at home. This was when FSU was top 5 in the country, and we were 6-5. So maybe we can somehow rally and coach our way out of this mess. (He typed hopefully.)
You have to request it, but yes, I would sure think he’d qualify. They may be stingy with the waivers since he was already given an extra year of eligibility and an extra year to use it (covid), but he’d sure qualify under normal circumstances
