Why not make the championship games part of the playoff system if the two participants are in the top 12 anyway. That would save time.

It would not have hurt my feelings one bit if the Rose stuck to their guns and the "grandaddy of them all" got relegated to the Poulan Weedeater Bowl had had the 4th place teams from the Big 10 and Pac 12 in it. F them and their self righteous crap.

Yep, that old mindset that the pac/BIG matchup in the Rose should be the nc every year since the rest of the country "doesn't know how to play football". It's not 1950 any more.

Yes. See above. I am speaking purely of the bowls. Sorry for the confusion.

Its a damn shame if the SEC ditches the division format, particularly if there are so many teams now in the conference. They were trendsetters in setting it up a real Conf Champ game and it has been hugely successful, but there is zero reason to continue it if there is no "division" to win. All it will do at that point is possibly damage chance of SEC teams making it to the playoff. If they go that route it will be time to let go of the tickets I've had since 1994 since it will essentially become a meaningless game.

Yep, the bottom 8 teams could get royally screwed by weather.

That would mean that the second best SEC team would potentially be knocked out while the no championship leagues teams continue to play....not a good idea unless you mandated a champ game for all leagues.

They would lose a ton of cash if the sec championship weren’t played or important. It will remain and have a bye game attached to the winner. I have nothing to go on besides follow the money which usually holds true.

I agree with you...they'll never cancel it because they make wads of money off of it, but if they get rid of divisions and then end up with three 8-1 teams (or one 9-0 team and more than one 8-1 or 7-2 teams) there will be hell to pay. They will end up using subjective rankings instead of settling the matter on the field like done now.

There will be some unwanted consequences of this format such as teams scheduling the patsiest of patsies in their OOC schedule to keep the highest ranking possible. If the SEC does this and I were Scott Stricklin, I would be on the horn the very next day cancelling our series with CO and CA. I guess TX and OU entering the SEC makes those series moot. I would even contemplate cancelling the FSU series.

Thevthree pod thing is dumb shit for sure. Might as well go back to voting champions before bowls are played. Four pods and four team playoff. Shorten season to ten games whatever, but no bs picking teams.

Exactly right....we are heading back toward the popularity contest as to who is the champ....at least if everyone played a round-robin schedule I could respect it, but that isn't possible in a 16 team conference and some teams are going to have scheduling advantages every single year.

At least okay your entire pod and only pod record should be used to determine pod champions and they should play it on the field. Either two or four so a true playoff.

I mean I think the road team would, but my guess is OSU would love a cold day vs a southern team. Its just like the NFL. Higher seed earns that advantage.

Odds are you get one or two cold weather games per season and they may both have cold weather teams playing.

College football is dying before our eyes.

It's all fun and games until a 9 win team with a crappy SOS makes the playoff.

The stakes of the regular season are drastically diminished, and there's much less necessity to schedule risky games due to the sheer quantity of teams.

    Atrocious move.

I'm sure this will end any controversy of any team being "worthy" not being in the playoff (yes this is sarcasm).

I hear ya, but that is still a lot of teams for a small number of spots though. 90% will be left out. NFL gives a spot to almost half the teams and there are still crucial games in the final week.

Now the 90 team expansion of the NCAA Tournament that some are pushing is insane.
