Iger did not indicate that Disney would change its approach though. Insisted on inclusion and controlling their own story lines

DeS cannot win this in court and Disney has no desire to go there so minor changes will be made and DeS will claim victory while licking his wounds. This, the immigrant flights etc should provide ripe fodder for his opposition if properly framed.

It should have provided fodder for his opposition the second he pushed this oppressive BS. I’m still beside myself that so many republicans went along with this government overreach.

they went along with the ME countries renting large convention blocks for events that never happened and hundreds of rooms in the POTUS's hotel.

I'm upset that the legislative branch on the state and federal levels have abdicated their responsibility to oversee the executive branch to the party bosses. Our systems of checks and balances is broken. That leads to more authoritarian rule if the leader of the executive branch wants to.

This has Iger written all over it. He knows this whole mess never made sense for Disney and he’s negotiating to make it go away.

DeSantis World is a large and extremely popular destination which has a little theme park called Disney World.

I don’t know what part of this makes sense for anyone. Disney should have autonomy in their own affairs, just like any other private entity.

Florida looks a lot like a banana republic to many corporate decision makers right now. Not a good investment.

Other private entities don’t have the beyond sweetheart deal with their local and state government like Disney does. Disney can take any position that they want to on any issue. They just can’t do it AND get special authority and tax status from the local and state governments. Now Disney is being treated like every other private entity and he wants the old deal back, because the current situation is costing them big $ as well as alienating them from half of the population.

Disney was foolish to enter into this fray. They have paid a high price for their stupidity. Iger is smart enough to know that they shouldn’t have done it so he making it go away like any smart businessman. Businesses need to stay out of the politics of sensitive issues. I’m quite sure that many leftovers from the old regime are on a very tight leash with Iger right now.

DeSantis just wanted Disney to shut up. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is not a first amendment issue. The Reedy Creek Improvement District gives Disney special status and very preferential financial advantage that NO other private entities in the state have. If you opened ChanningWorld next year you would not get what Disney had. You would get what everyone else had. What the state did last year was take away Disney’s special status and make them have to operate just like ChanningWorld would have to.

Reedy Creek Improvement District was a gold mine AND a cash machine all in one. Anyone who cannot see the stupidity of what Disney did should not be running a company.

DeSantis used the govt to punish protected free speech. That's literally what you are saying.

First, we actually learned that over 1,000 Florida companies have this sweetheart deal. And the deal was clearly made to bring Disney to Florida, so the state has already received its end of the bargain.

But all of that is actually beside the central point. Think about what you are actually implying: The governor of Florida should be able to offer state resources to a private entity on the condition that the entity engages only in speech friendly to the governor. There’s no way you actually agree with that, right?

Lol Keep talking like you think you're smarter than everyone. You were dead wrong on this. Admit it. Desantis caved, it was all talk, and Disney's only financial problem is their mishandling of the streaming side. They've still passed Netflix as the biggest streamer on the planet, their parks are still packed and turning big profits even with a reservation cap.

You keep crowing about resident libbies acting like they are smarter than everyone, but you use your opinion as absolute fact. You got this one wrong.

There are about 1,800 special districts JUST like Disney. Where are you getting this lie from? Disney has the largest pull in the state. The Villages operates exactly like Reedy. You are fooling yourself.

He didn’t punish them. He just told them that if they wanted their sweetheart deal with the state to continue then they need to keep their mouths shut or they would lose it and
be treated like everyone else is.

The state gave them special consideration because having what Disney used to be here in Florida was a good thing for the state. When Disney stops being a good thing for the state they lose their special status.

We have learned nothing of the sort. You obviously don’t understand the depth of the deal Disney had. It allowed them to be their own government.

The law authorizing the district and the bond underwriting is on Disney side here. DeS has no legal basis here just like the immigrant flights
