Don’t consider this case closed yet. This performance against a&m was pretty disappointing and things are tough in the SEC. I could see this eventually being problematic. He just doesn’t fit there. He’s going to have to go on an incredible run to appease their fans.
I agree. I think South Carolina's 8-4 is more impressive than LSU's 9-3, all things considered. Still, LSU fans I know are fairly happy with the season so far. This is only the second time in 12 years that they are going to the SEC champinship game. Coincides with the number of times they beat Bama. But yeah, lets see if Kelly can keep it up.
I’ve watched college football for many years and a lot of Gamecock football. I’ve never seen a team completely change offensively 2 games before the regular season ends. There is no way the light all of a sudden came on for the OC. He might have been calling plays the last 2 games, but I can guarantee it wasn’t the same type plays that was used in previous games. Beamer stepped in and made him simplify everything and leave the most talented players on the field. Spencer finally looked comfortable in the pocket and in those last 2 games you saw what he was capable of. it was amazing to watch and a credit to Coach Beamer.
One of the reasons I started this thread a few weeks ago. Beamer gets it and gets every ounce of talent out of his players.
Just found out Rattler will be playing the bowl game. Would love to see him with a new OC if he comes back next year. Shane Beamer is the last hope for South Carolina to ever be relevant in the SEC.. Holtz and Spurrier were both older and flamed out. Shane has to get this OC hire right…. He’s got everything around him to be really good, just get a good OC.
Don't think it's official yet and not sure if it will happen. Just being an OC? I think it could either be a grand slam or a disaster. I trust Shane leading the program. I'm not exactly sure SC could do better than Dan Mullen as an OC.
True, should have said potential hire. But agree, if he swallows his pride could be an interesting team w him and Beamer.
How many 11 win seasons did your school have in it's entire history of playing college football have before SOS was your coach? I think SOS deserves a bit more respect than how you mentioned him "flamed out" at USCe.
he flamed out in the end. He quit on his team mid season and before the season began hired Jon Hoke on his staff.. outside of Todd Grantham there is no more hated coach on that side of the ball then Jon Hoke at UF. He made a lot of mistakes in the end and he admits to it. He doesn’t like how he did things those last few years. The 11 win seasons were awesome, but at the age he was at he knew his time was gonna be coming to an end. Hey I’m grateful for what he did at SC, but quitting mid season is not a good look and I love Spurrier as much as anyone.
He let one of his assistant coaches take over... he opted out of the last few games in his last season at USCe.
yeah and he lost to the Citadel…. It’s honestly not all Spurriers fault. Ray Tanner and Jerri wanted him to stay on, so it built up to him quitting. He knew after the bowl win against Miami that his time was done, but he was convinced to stay. Opting out is a good word for quit. One of the worst things he did in his last few years at SC was making Steve Jr recruiting coordinator, when Jr hated recruiting. You won’t find a better receiving coach then Steve Jr, but he’s the same guy who years earlier thought Alshon Jeffery was to slow to be an SEC receiver…. Guess who convinced senior to give Alshon a chance? Shane Beamer….
He is old and got burned out. And it's not like he left for another team and took all of his assistant coaches with him. I just feel like some people give him too much grief for the way he left your team. He gave you some of the best coaching years he had left and he should be pardoned for his hastened retreat.
I am NOT arguing anything. Simply pointing out that he sounded less than kind to the coach that gave their team so much more than they gave back to him in return. an 11 win season even in Gainesville is an achievement, but in Columbia? It never happened until SOS got there. SOS gave the school more than one 11 win seasons. He should be respected by their fan base. Still... not arguing. Just saying, and pointing out facts.
