A second degree felony is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Each image is a separate count and the sentences need not be concurrent and often are consecutive. I’m not sure why you’re suggesting that “only a 2F” is like these offenders are getting slaps on the wrist. It’s quite to the contrary actually, as most child pornography possessors are “collectors” who are often found with dozens to hundreds of images.

(I’d add here that general possession and distribution are 3Fs, up to 5 years. Certain circumstances aggravate it to a 2F. If he’s being charged with a 2F, it is really, really bad images)

I guarantee you that FDLE is delving into every hard drive Kitna has access to and the metadata to see if he is or has been in possession of or distributed more illegal images.

 

First degree murder is a capital felony. Second degree is a life felony.

It’s in between the lines of the articles. He admitted to posting a picture on discord that actually made other users upset. That’s when he “knew” he probably did something wrong. Chances are, if the picture in question was even scraping the line of 17/18 years old, it wouldn’t have caused such a reaction. Also, if the posted image was bad enough to be reported to a Federal Trafficking Agency, something had to have been bad.
