And last year’s DL had 3 starters and a contributor that were Mullen transfers. Cox, Newkirk, Valentino and Truesdale.
It’s a new era with the extra covid year and the one-time transfer rule change so transfers will be a lot more important moving forward.
True, the offense did what it needed to in the scoring part. However, there was the inconsistency in sustaining drives that was definitely a liability and detriment to our “out of focus” D. The D looked very much under the influence of Grantham and I’d chalk that up to their lack of development and improvement from his coaching style or lack there of. How many times did we lose gap control and/or over pursue on the edges to let a runner break free for big yardage? We seemed to play perfectly into the offenses schemes to guarantee their success. Things seemed to improve minimally on defense, but our offense wasn’t always helping the weak defense with 3 and outs or short drives. AR is loaded with talent, but is easily put off his game - both physical and mental with a very physical attacking defense. In both the UK and FSU games the hard hits put him in protection mode and put his passing game in the toilet! Letting the other team cheat the run and make him throw it! He also has a bad habit of reading RPOs incorrectly and either keeping or handing off into getting stuffed in the backfield. When he’s hot he’s hot, when he’s cold he’s ice cold!
