That’s like having to choose your method of execution. Either by a meat slicer starting at the toes or being buried in a fire ant pile after being coated in honey.
History will be much kinder to chump. He worked his ass off and recruited lights out on D. He was woefully unprepared to be a HC anywhere and seemed to get worse as time went on. The frustration due to injuries turned him into an asshole and the rest is history. He is no where as likeable as Ron Zook and every bit as insufferable as Butters and Mullenz.
To be fair, I recall this being a judgment call by Mullen. He almost got Fields and eventually did get Jones, so it wasn’t like he just checked out. I think that he didn’t want Corral, and he clearly wasn’t the only coach to feel that way.
Its a shame he filtered back to Georgia as DC...no one would want him as head coach and he is a great defensive recruiter and DC. He may be there a long time.
And some just disgusted. It’ll get better or it won’t. I sure miss stomping our rivals asses though. 52-20 seems so long ago but just like yesterday at the same time.
Yes, from his POV lol. Our rivals having multiple defensive gurus/elite recruiters on staff is not good for us
Yup...he's a millionaire many times over and now he gets to do a job he is actually good at. He should never leave and never answer any call from someone that might need a new HC.
I think the game has passed him by honestly. He’s stubborn and his defenses at SC got progressively worse
It does make one wonder though in situations like this where The head Coach is a defensive guy as well, whose defense is really effective kind of like when Dan Quinn was DC under muschamp and when he left muschamps defenses were not as good. Is the defense good because of Kirby or because mushchamp is their DC.
My take is that as long as they aren't fighting over how to run the defense its a net positive to have both around.
Good info....I thought he had been promoted from analyst to DC, but it looks like it was to STC. He's apparently just a Co-DC with Schumann right now.
I agree, unfortunately for UF it's hard to dispute Chumps defensive prowess as a Defensive Coordinator, and recruiter, if there was any doubting that, I think the last two years have proven where he is most valuable as a coach. (Regrettably for UF and the rest of the SEC East )
Another great GC recruiting thread about..... wait, what was this thread about again? Nevermind, I'll go back several pages and maybe there will be a post somewhere on here about the actual topic.
