You have inspired me. Samford has played 8 games without a single word from me about Ques. Bucky McMillan is a terrific coach. He is playing 13 guys. He does it by applying full court pressure on defense. The team challenges all inbound passes after baskets and selectively traps in the backcourt. Bucky’s intention is to get some turnovers and to speed up the game. On offense, there are a ton of screens, player movement and ball movement. Samford is fun to watch. Ques is playing about 21 mpg and is averaging about 15 ppg, which works out to about 27.5 ppg on a 40-minute basis. He is on the Lou Henson watch for national mid-major player of the year. Samford started 6-0 and has since lost 2 straight games. Their first loss was to Louisiana Tech by a few points after coming back from a 16-point deficit with 4 minutes to go. Ques had 26 points in 29 minutes, but it was not enough. Ques did not play in the next game, which they also lost by a point or two. Samford plays tonight on FS2 against DePaul at 9 pm. I don’t know Ques’s status for the game. As for Appleby, I watched part of the game last night against Wisconsin, and he was great. I also saw him blow a game against Loyola Marymount a few weeks ago when he tried to do it all by himself down the stretch and in overtime. Regardless, he is having a good year. It’s unfortunate that Nembhard, Glover and Appleby all had to go elsewhere to find success.
Glad to hear Appleby is doing well. These type of threads dealing with "what if" are useless. The kid decided he did not want to continue at UF with the coaching change. It appears he made a good personal decision. End of story.
I couldn’t find anything about why he didn’t play. I will be recording the game, so I can watch it later if Ques plays. Changing the subject, I saw that the Gator game is on Hulu, which carries some of the ESPN+ games.
I’ve wondered, did HE decide or did Golden recommend he move on, since he wanted to bring in HIS CHOICE for PG?
Just a note Tampa, I’ve had HULU for about two years now. I’ve pretty much been able to catch most of our Football & Basketball games. Not thrilled with their recent price bump, but still think it’s worth it. They also carry the SEC Network.
“It’s unfortunate that Nembhard, Glover and Appleby all had to go elsewhere to find success.” I agree to an extent, as all three found greater success at their next stop. But Nembhard was an SEC All-Freshman… and as a sophomore, led the conference in assist:turnover ratio. Appleby, though frustrating at times… led his team in assists both seasons at Florida and was a double-digit scorer. it would be wonderful if they maxed out at Florida… but it didn’t happen. That cuts both ways sometimes, with Castleton, of course, being greatest example of us as beneficiary. I hope guys like Richard and Bonham become additional examples.
Always liked Appleby. Thought he was a magician as a passer and a bit of a streaky scorer but capable of putting up a big number on occasion. He was a little loose at times as his flare as a passer often found him trying to do to much, but I was sad to see him transfer. I believe we’ve got two very good point guards in Lofton and Bonham.
The only thing that concerned me about Appleby's game is that he was rather hot tempered at times and I didn't want him suspended because he lost his cool after getting knocked around like a bowling pin or hacked at like he was firewood. The team needed him. I do miss him but he's better off elsewhere - especially at Wake.
i always liked his passion. He was a competitor every night. CC starts out every game in control but he doesn’t do as well until he is hacked relentless then his passion shows, he gets aggressive. In basketball you need that aggressive passion to excel. I was sad to see him leave, just glad he didn’t go to Georgia! Our team this year seems to follow CC with playing in control without all out aggression, then teams like West Virginia, who Huggy Bear will take you out if you don’t play with all out aggression, Xavier with Miller demands the same. Boths teams controlled the games when we played them. a wake-up call for this team and we came out with more aggression against FAMU, examples Tre and Kowacie early! Jump on your opponent and don’t let up! Refs let the aggressor teams get away with a lot of this because this style most calls don’t get called.
