Both are necessary for sure. Napier didn’t have the relationships that power 5 coaches had either. His relationships were with a whole different set of kids. Those other coaches just changed schools, not the kids they were talking to. Our bag system is just now getting on track also.
Bag vs duffel vs truck load. We need to adjust with the times. How else can we attract the special ones
Feel like we forgot about Moore who might have as much upside as any of them. Probably a bigger loss this year from injury than we realize
Our offense is definitely not the problem. We are at 2 losses this year if our defense is even average. And that is definitely a talent issue
I'd be slightly disappointed that he didn't close any big fish, but the player average is still a whole point higher than any class since 2010.
I can't speak for anyone else, but a "real" #8 final ranking that includes another strong LB (or two) wouldn't be bad at all. Although like many, I think we could be pleasantly surprised by the final tally. But IMO, we have absolutely nothing to bitch about with the class as it stands now. That's especially true if we land an additional, no BS 4-5* or two on ESD. If we manage that as well as a few plug and play guys in the portal, it'll be cigars all around and 30-year-old whiskey time in Gatorville.
You’re absolutely correct. I did forget about him. He is a stud. That’s a total of 5 true freshman he got right on defense which is 46%. This isn’t luck.
LB's (both portal and HS) need to come and it will be a really successful class even if it stays at #8. I wouldn't turn down another couple linemen either.
We closed out 4 of our losses (Tenn, LSU, F$U, and Vandy) in our final drives with 1 completion, 1 interception, and 10 incompletions. No Hail Mary to the endzone at game end. Noles we were on their 24 with 1 minute left in the game (4 incompletions). Just slight more accuracy from the QB position, upgrades to our WR and TE, and some more dominant OL people and we probably at least go to OT or win those games. Biggest upgrade has to be to our LB core. If we get quality LB'ers with depth, many of those running QB's (which was often the reason we couldn't get off the field) will be contained and most of those games are easy wins. The future is bright, hopefully CBN delivers.
Just look at their offer list. When we are actively competing against Bama and UGA, we know we’re on the right track.
And that Vandy game was a fluky game where a bunch of weird things happened. It was disappointing for sure, but it shouldn’t be used as ammo to how the coaching staff sucks argument.
Riley was a P5 coach with Playoff experience. He was able to get OU’s best QB and best WR. Napier was a G5 coach and was able to get some of his team’s best players who ended up starting for us. USC also played a much weaker schedule than UF. Napier is not Riley. He may can get there, but not this season.
Bama has been getting transfers in for a few years now with their WR corp last year and To’o To’o I think the year before.
