You claimed the tariffs helped US farmers, but you're obviously unwilling or unable to say how. Do you think that's how rational, well-meaning conversation should be held, that we should just say anything we want and claim it's true?
"Hey, DeSantis doubled the Florida citrus crop!"
    "Biden personally ended cyberbullying!"

Apparently some are so gullible as to think of the tariffs on China consisting of Xi sitting down at his desk, opening his fancy, leather bound trifold checkbook, and writing a big fat check to Uncle Sam. It doesn't work that way.

Thank you for that well thought out and respectful post. You make a lot of good points. Sometimes both sides tend to overexaggerate their position because everyone wants to be right and by telling the other poster how wrong they are makes them feel good about themselves.

With that being said I would argue that the Trump Presidency as a whole was attacked by a biased main stream media from day one. Democrats like Adam Shiff, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi amongst a whole slew of others attacked Trump relentlessly promising to impeach him from the day he took office, even if they had nothing to go on. This was not good for the country. False accusations, ridiculous impeachment proceedings really divided our country like I have never seen before. Biden could not run the campaign he ran and then say we need to come together as a country. Every Republican I know got extremely insulted by Biden and will never support or trust anything he says. That's too bad because that also doesn't move the country forward.

I feel that Trump handled COVID as good as could be expected considering all the backlash he was getting. Biden has not exactly handled things better he just doesn't address anything with the American people. Trump put himself out there too much and Biden almost never puts himself out there for serious cross examination. Biden's approach you could say has worked better but he was backed up by an extremely friendly mainstream media that has not held him accountable or at least not asked him the tough questions. Trump could never slip by the way Biden has as he was constantly grilled (and stood there and answered every question). I happen to like cross examination as long as it is fair and balanced otherwise otherwise it comes off looking like a political assassination towards one side but not the other. Did Trump make some mistakes, of course he did, was he perfect, of course not but who can you say had the perfect answer to this horrible plague. Everybody from both sides of the aisle have made and continue to make critical mistakes. This is what happens when you have a generational pandemic like we are going through. Instead of blaming each other shouldn't we have come together with one goal in mind and supported (all) our leaders not just the ones you politically agree with, instead of pointing fingers at them.

I also agree Obamacare is fairly popular. It doesn't work like Obama promised it would but it works well enough unless a better plan can be presented. I wish both parties could work together to improve upon it. I would however say I don't think Obamacare was a midterm issue that moved the dial very much for the mid term election. If it was the Dems would have drilled down on it and they didn't.

I am not saying moderate Dems do not have some popular policies but they are drowned out by the extreme left wing radicals in the party. Maybe you can say that about the GOP, I just don't see the extreme right wing of the party having as much of a hold on the GOP party as the Left wing has over the Democratic party. You could say maybe I am not looking hard enough and maybe you are right but extremists like the "squad" are right in the mainstream while the extreme righties are much more in the background.

With all that being said I am totally convinced that Abortion was the one issue that the Dems rallied around and while maybe the GOP candidates were not very good at offering solutions to the issues that are really crippling our country at least they brought those issues up. Dems didn't even want to address those issues at all. Dems decided to move the narrative away from those issues and had the finances to do just that. If asked about the economy, crime, border issues and even lockdowns their answer was always three fold Trump, Abortion and Democracy. In my opinion 2 out of 3 of those positions meant nothing compared to Abortion. That was the gift that kept on giving to the Dems by SCOTUS. Dems that are celebrating the mid term election results (wrongly in my opinion because it didn't go as well as they think it did) are making a big mistake. At some point the Biden administration has to get above water over the next 2 years on mainstream issues or I believe they will get crushed in 2024. Unless they find another misdirection event they can focus on.

Finally I would once again say that the real reason the red wave never happened was because of the SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade and the Dems made sure that issue was on the forefront of everyone's thinking during the mid term election.

Travelingator is taking a beating. I feel like he is new to Internet forums (his whining about “nastiness” is a big clue) so I’m going you free valuable advice. If you’re going to cut and paste someone else’s thought and pass them off as your own opinions you should be reasonably well versed with the argument. If you are you can scrub the cut and paste of BS that’s immediately going to be spotted by other member of the forum with triple digit IQ’s. To the extent the remaining points are not complete BS but requires knowledge to defend them - make yourself knowledgeable. Lastly it’s always best to add your own arguments to a cut and paste to hide the fact that it’s a cut and paste of someone else’s take.

Come on, there's simply no reason for that crap. You make a claim, you should be willing to back it up.

Your claim: "Tariffs on China- making China pay for unfair trade practices which really helped farmers."
No, China didn't pay. US importers of Chinese goods paid and passed much of that onto US consumers. Trump's actions costs US farmers billions in sales to China so, yes, he took most of the money the importers paid and passed it onto to farmers. But the farmers wouldn't have needed it had it not been for Trump's tariffs.
    That's not 'really helping farmers.'

As of now, it has been assigned to a special counsel. We will see what comes of the investigation.

What rights, specifically, have they trampled? Please provide a court citation of rights having been trampled by the Government in these cases.

As of now, I have seen no evidence that she did lie. The Secret Service agent testified, but was that testimony contradictory to what Hutchinson said? And, BTW, Principal Assistant to the COS is not a low level aide position. That means you work two offices away from the Oval. It is strange that you needed to call her such.

    They called Engel. He testified.

And the evidence of this is Trump said so?

The word you are looking for is insurrection. Resurrection means that somebody came back from the dead. Here are the facts: Trump promoted a rally on January 6 with his euphemism for violence ("wild") by his supporters. He then stated that they (himself and his supporters) were going to go to the Capitol in his speech. He did not for some reason (cowardice, lying to his supporters, or the Secret Service essentially not letting him are really the only three reasons). However, his supporters did and they broke into the Capitol, threatened members of Congress, and shut down the Constitutionally-mandated process of a transfer of power. Trump did not discourage this behavior for hours as it was going on, with members of his own staff observing that he was supporting their actions. He has now stated his support either generally or in specific for the people who did this.

See, now you are accusing me of being "brainwashed." I have not done similar to you. If you want to have non-nasty conversations, that would be a good way to start. The decision to offer the migrants an option to go to the military base was made by the Governor. That is a factual statement. There is no evidence that the local population forced him to do that (nor that they even could do that).

And, as I pointed out, the Republican-led Senate panel found collusion. So how is it more accurate to disagree with that panel's findings? In addition, it was shown in court that the Campaign Manager for Trump's campaign was sharing internal data with Russian Government operatives (which is colluding with them). How is it accurate to pretend that didn't happen?

No, because that is factually inaccurate. There are two Republicans on the panel: Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL).

I addressed it directly. It is factually untrue.

You seem unfamiliar with American idiom. The label you are looking for is RINO (Republican in name only).. it’s definitely not Rhino (which if unfamiliar is a large mean tempered animal found in Africa).

It’s something a foreign bot would get wrong.

Also you got Liz’s last name wrong..

Well if you do leave it’s probably best for your mental health. You’re getting a little unhinged - see your latest nastiness where you accuse me of calling you a liar, something I did not in fact do.

I assume an apology is not forthcoming.

    Sniff….

I have said nothing that isn't civil in my responses today. And it is interesting that your evidence that somebody is a RINO (which is the correct spelling of what you are trying to say) has nothing to do with policy but is purely based upon improper reverence for Trump.

You stated that the panel had no Republicans. That is factually untrue because Kinzinger and Cheney are both members of the Republican Party and the Republican House Caucus. Here is their website. Both are listed as Republican Caucus members. That is a factual statement. You not liking them does not mean that they aren't Republicans nor does it change the facts.

Wouldn't Trump now be the RINO since so many of his candidates lost elections for the Republicans the Party has moved away from him so he's the new RINO. LOL

Your story would be more (not very) plausible had you also not misspelled Liz’s last name.

    Excuse my nastiness!

Arizona is threatening to become even nuttier than Florida. I think its the dry heat.

GOP-controlled Arizona county refuses to certify election
PHOENIX (AP) — Republican officials in a rural Arizona county refused on Monday to certify the 2022 election, despite no evidence of anything wrong with the count, amid pressure from prominent Republicans to reject results showing Democrats winning top races.

Arizona was long a GOP stronghold, but this month Democrats won most of the highest profile races over Republicans who aggressively promoted Trump’s 2020 election lies. Kari Lake, the GOP candidate for governor who lost to Hobbs, and Mark Finchem, the candidate for secretary of state, have refused to acknowledge their losses.
