Now that BN’s first regular season is in the books here are some changes I would like to see and what I think will happen. First, what I think we will see in players moving on to the NFL. I see O'Cyrus, Ricky and AR go to the NFL. Not to mention the seniors & transfer’s we will see leave the team. I believe the loss of Ricky & Shorter will be a blow to the core next year. However, the talent we have coming in will be fun to watch next year. Onto what I want to see. The first is an offensive coordinator (Scott would be my first choice). I understand that UF averaged 227 in the air and 213 on the ground. Not to mention average close to 32 points a game. I would like to see BN as more of a CEO. I expect to see the staff hit the portal for QB , WR, TE, and OL (depth). Defensive needs a ton of help. We all can see that. Again the DL class looks like it could be a good one in time. I would expect the staff to look at the portal for help everywhere for the defense. The are only a few returning players that I would say could be a starters next year. And BN needs to hire a special team coach!!! Then get Chaney an on the field position. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on who you would want as OC or if you guys think I missed something or if I am over blowing things
Easy....Peagler and one of the linebacker coaches. TE and Linebackers have been terrible. If you want a winning program you have to make the tough cuts.
Do you replace the TE coach or does the wr coach coach both and an OC. Replace LB coach and replace with Special teams coach.
I would say Peagler and Chaney to replace Bateman. Or you could give one the assistants the role of ST coordinate. I really can’t blame Peagler he had DL playing TE all year. That’s more on BN not seeing weak spot and not addressing it.
I want a new DC but do not expect that to happen since Sale is the OC in title only, I would bring in Jeff Scott as Co-Oc QB Coach/play caller and can Peagler and Batemen. Hire a new TE/ST Coach and let Peterson coach all the LB’s
Lots of coaches do dual duty. We're going to have to look of course. We need to go out and find and PAY for talented coaches. Steal a coach, we aren't middle tennessee state....we can spend a couple bucks.
A DC that can produce much better defense. STAT. An Offense w a Qb that doesn’t come out flat after halftime week in week out.
I want Ike Hilliard as OC and to help the WR coach (if not replace him if needed) We should sign minimum 11 defensive players in the portal. I keep harping on the fact Kelly at LSU signing 7 DBs via the portal before the season. That is coaching to win. I want to see more of that then all this losing “culture” we saw this year. All that’s well and good but you need to win first and I’ve seen very little of imposing our will on other teams this year. We lost to every rival plus Vandy & Kentucky. Inexcusable even with a zillion injuries which we didn’t have, inexcusable. And of course we need a Special Teams coach! Spurrier made a few small digs at the Nutrition Coach position Napier created before the season. I would’ve laughed much harder but in a bad way if I’d known we had no ST coach. WTH ???
I don’t expect any staffing changes after this season in terms of firings. There’s a chance a certain excellent recruiter could be poached by another program, and therefore warrant a replacement. I foresee a few mandatory firings this time next year though, as the heat under Stricklin’s seat begins to get uncomfortable.
If Napier does not want to hire a dedicated OC/ QBC/ passing game coordinator for year 2 then he needs to delegate some of those duties. If he does not want to fire his DC or any defensive assistants after year 1 then he needs to shuffle things around. If he does not want a dedicated special team coach for year 2 then he needs to get an on-field coach to share those duties. There are things he can do, but he needs to do something different. If small changes do not work in year 2 then go to big changes in year 3, because that might be all Napier gets.
Huh? Colbert is one of the best coaches/recruiters on the staff lol. He doesn't need assistance, let alone be replaced.
Crap route running except for Pearsall. 7 (SEVEN vs our rivals )drops yesterday. He’s 10x better than Billy Gonzalez but so far, imo (I played the position) not good enough for UF. Remains to be seen if he’s a great recruiter etc lost Copeland & the Whitmore Bros for ex. Napier wants his WRs to be “edge blockers” so I’m sure that doesn’t help in recruiting either. Ike(who had a terrific college & pro career) would be a great addition as he also played QB in HS. He would be dynamite recruiting FL and Louisiana
Or just ignore the massive progress that Shorter made this year under his tutelage and the fact that the guy he brought in (Pearsall) was a great WR for us all season. Even with his drops yesterday, Douglas looks to have promise, and he brought him into the fold as well. We only want "edge blockers"? If that's the case, why are Mizell, Wilson and Jean currently committed? Not a single one of them is on the commit list because they can block. That's two top 100 WR's and a third who is dynamite downfield. Who cares about Copeland (who did nothing at Maryland btw) and the Whittemore brothers lol when we've got this type of talent coming in. Keary Colbert is not a problem in the slightest. He's pulling his weight and thensome on and off the field.
Correction: been hearing we are looking at an ace recruiter. We may have to make room for him if it happens.
