missed tackles and failure to set the edge were huge issues today. Offense did enough to win but I think it is interesting how this offense scores points in bunches yet can look so sloppy doing it. Missed passes, dropped passes, and all the other issues between QB and WR that we have. Just crazy to think how good they would be if they worked that out. Might actually win the games despite the failures of the defense.
We had quite a few drops. FSU made contested catches. That’s the game. AR was actually more accurate than Travis tonight. He had some bad throws for sure but we win with a bad game from our non Ricky catchers. We got a terrible one. And those that are blaming him for the last play. Billy got the play in with no time. Ball snapped with rushers easily able to time it. He had instant pressure that yanked his face mask. He WAS throwing it up because that’s better than a sack at that point.
I think Billy left points out there and should give up OC duties…. RZ, clock, and late calls all point to a guy that is too busy…. But you are right. The problem is BY FAR the defense. Defense is a joke
I said this in an earlier post. Billy’s Football 101 and Xs and Os are below UF standards at the moment. This isn’t something he will fix in the offseason by attending a couple of coaching seminars. He has to outsource the offense and bring the win total up in a hurry. We have fired coaches for better performances than this.
Not to disagree with your point about defense, once again, being an issue, FSU's "good defense" has been heavily propped up by playing noted offensive powerhouses like Boston College, Syracuse, Miami and Georgia Tech.
Serious question, because I don't know ... Is it that he is too busy, or that there are too many people involved in the play selection. I really do not know.
There's a big difference though, Travis actually chooses to use his legs when a play breaks down. It's maddening to watch AR, who's like double the size of Travis and just as quick, just stand there like a statue and refuse to use his physical gifts to his advantage. Travis isn't a good QB, but he's a great playmaker. Right now, I'm afraid AR is neither.
This is what I'm so down on the coaching staff about (Defense in particular but the HC doesn't get a pass). Anyone who has known anything about Travis for 4 years would be able to tell you that he can only beat you with his feet. Force him to stay in the pocket and beat you with the pass....and over and over again we lost contain and let him back-break us running the ball. Its almost as if the coaching staff didn't scout him at all.
