LSU, Tennessee, Vandy, UK, FSU. All close games where our lack of talent, especially on defense, killed us. USF game was only close because of our lack of talent Missing major giys tonight and still fought to the end. Billy is going to fix the talent level. That alone will win a lot of games. How he handles the defensive staff will be very interesting going forward, bit even that os still playing with lazy Grantham's players and habits. I have no less faith in Billy thaan I did after Utah. Get the players and lets roll.
I feel the same. This is a talent gap issue at crucial positions and even with that we were in every game this season. Fix the QB, WR, DL, and LBs. Unfortunately though this is going to take another season of recruiting. These two backs we have are going to be funny to watch. Overall, we will be better next year, but still not ready to complete for the SEC Title.
The loss tonight was not due to lack of talent, other than at WR due to the injuries. Our OL dominated and we should have established the run right ouf of halftime. Instead we had 9 incompletions in three 3-and-outs and 17 F$U points.
Disagree. Play calling has scored over 30 points in several losses. 38 points should beat FSU every single time. And that was with no Shorter, X etc, to throw to. No. Its talent. A mediocre defense has us winning 38-30 tonight. Top receivers probably give us the winning TD. It is talent. People act like Billy has to call a perfect game, but 38 points is 38 points. We lost 3 games this season because our defensive talent is miles below Florida standards and our WR are nowhere near as good as we expect. QB is questionable arm talent wise too. Talent is way off. Billy is fixing that.
We scored 38 tonight with the QB position going 9/27 and 1 functional wide out…. If anything that’s not an indictment of the offense, it shows that it’s ceiling is so much higher … Defense however gave up 45
I swear some of you watch a different game than me. That defense is so far below Florida talent standards it's not even funny. The offense scored 38 points and were a missed facemask from likely tying or winning the game. 38 points is only not enough because our defensive talent is on par with big 12 teams. And our WR talent isnt close to what we expect. Even when healthy. OLine and RB are literally the only SEC level talent we have across the board
Yeah, I agree. While better talent is not the cure-all, I do think it gets us a win tonight along with at least two more. And we're not even talking Bama or UGA talent.
I think it looked the exact same. Billy had to do it with Mullens guys and will out-recruit Mullen. My bet is he has a shorter leash for the defense too. He was pissed about the personel issue that led to a wasted timeout.
No. But they have enough to upset us right now. That isnt normally the case for a program like us. Talent that can beat FSU, UT etc will crush Vandy.
Im not handing out awards for this defense, but you realize we started one 5-star player at each u nit on D tonight. Dexter 5-star DL, Wingo 5-star LB, Marshall 5-star DB. Were they all recruiting analyst busts or our coaches are unable to coach them up? Most of the other players were 4-stars on the recruiting services. We don’t have UGA talent, but we also don’t have Vandy talent. 10/12 games this year our D sucked. Time to take a long look at Toney.
Our 1st 3 possessions of the 3rd quarter: 1 short run by Montrell and 1 short run by AR 6 incomplete passes 1 sack given up 1 delay of game penalty 0 first downs. With the penalty and sack, we had -2 total yards of offense in 3 possessions. 3-point lead turns into 14 point deficit. ETN - no touches.
Our defense blew, but this right here was key. Why did we come out doung this nonsense in the second half?
And if we had stud wideouts and he goes 5 of 6 for a TD we arent having this discussion. Billy should have run the ball. Thats small picture though. Big picture is, why cant we complete a pass? Perhaps because we had 1 SEC wideout tonight and Shorter amd X etc arent setting the world on fire when healthy.
“Talent” is ill-defined. What does it mean ? Does a lack of talent signal athletic players that always seem to be confused and out of position and can’t wrap up. Does it mean speedy receivers who can’t catch balls ? Does it mean a man child of a QB who’s wildly inconsistent and seemingly afraid to run ?
