Hate this loss, but it was way more competitive than I expected. Couple of observations 1) I think the play calling was much improved over last week. Coming out of the half was awful, but coaching staff made adjustments. 2) it takes us a loooooong time to get plays in. That needs to be addressed. 3) our defense is just awful. I feel that some of it is talent level and some is scheming. 4) I think that this have shows that we atleast had the talent to beat Vandy. But didn't because of point 5 5) we have opportunities for improvement in both coaching and execution. Anyone who claims otherwise isn't really watching the games.
I thought the second PI was a Max Factor makeup call to compensate for the missed call on the previous play. As for Brock Osweiller’s commentary; he stunk! A penalty in the first minute is a penalty in the final minute as well
Not at all obvious to me. Our O and D did okay. Our team did well after I heard all week about FSU outclassing us.
As of now we fired a 6-6 coach to bring in… … a 6-6 coach. Napier probably inherited more of a mess than recent UF coaches (esp on D), but even our failed recent hires did better than 6-6 in year 1. It’s hard to know what we have. The D didn’t improve much, so recruiting and impact transfers on D has to be priority 1a. Our offense isn’t without questions either, especially if breaking in a new QB. Guys going to need to show some improvement in year 2.
I am glad there is a ton of sporting events over the next couple of months. I have had enough of the moral victories
Based on 12 games it appears we have someone who can consistently give us 8-10 win seasons. But no real indication of anything better.
Now we get to see if BN can realistically self assess the down falls of what the team did this year and get it fixed. The last three coaches got a big fat zero in that regard so I’m hopeful. If he doesn’t make some significant personal moves including demoting himself as OC he is going to be in trouble next year. We don’t like to lose to Georgia, Tenn, fsu Kentucky and for god sakes Vandy in the same year. I’m hoping he gets it and I think he will otherwise I will be patiently waiting for the return of Urban and all the stink he brings and at this point I won’t really care. Over a decade of Dismal gator ball is enough.
Our offense did “ok” in the loss. The D is the opposite of OK. It’s still horrid. Outside the SC game it’s pretty close to the historically bad D of Mullen’s last two years.
In his first year Napier lost to ALL of our rivals and two traditional SEC bottom-dwellers. There were some competitive games like tonight and Tennessee, but also some head scratchers like Vandy. Other than 1979 with Pell (keep in mind he was fired NOT for on-field performance), there hasn’t been a successful UF coach who started this badly. And even though wins and losses are the ultimate determinant of a UF coach’s fate, Napier’s most imminent concern is how to fix the many defficiencies in his football 101, which this year contributed directly to three of his six losses. He won’t make it to year 5 if these mistakes keep happening.
FINAL: Florida #Gators fall 45-38 at No. 16 Florida State, ending three-game winning streak over FSU. Florida falls to Georgia, Tennessee, LSU and FSU for the first time ever in the same season. Takeaways to come.
Not sure if you're joking but I believe it's true. Someone called it a touch or something but no way that shouldn't be called at any level of game or any time of game. Ironic it came during a sickening discussion of a previous play that was clearly a PI. We played an even game with them and were down on our roster quite a bit. I know - no moral victories but screw that. We held up well tonight.
