The chomp pisses people off when we do it . Opposition will always throw it back when they get a chance. No big deal . Means nothing
We are middle tier D1 school . Been that way for a while. We are what we are . I didn’t watch a dribble tonight. Just read the comments, I can imagine what it looked like
It makes sense if we do it..it's our mascot symbol, it is what an actual Gator does, it " chomps" what it is going up against...when the opponent does it they are disrespecting and mocking..it is derogatory..making fun of us
Everyone hates Florida they could care less if we feel disrespected. Mocking Florida for all sports is in season . Our athletic program is just getting drilled the last couple years . Opponents are gonna do it while we suck
We actually got up far more 3s, but it was their shots in transition and off scramble situations that killed us. That probably accounted for half of their makes.
Yep. Offense really hummed at times. Turned them over and got some easier buckets that way in the second half. I am just mystified by a) how poor we are finishing around the rim for a relatively long team, and b) why are struggle so mightily on ball screen defense. For all his points, Castleton has actually shot rather inefficiently this year. And we don’t seem to have anyone who can consistently dunk. Ultimately the perimeter defense will improve as we figure out what works best with this team, but I can tell you that no analytics stuff likes giving up threes when we fail to go over a screen.
Bonehead plays is exactly right. We had so many opportunities right at the rim in the first half that we completely missed again. The Jones mistakes (on offense and defense) were also particularly bad to close the half. But we made good adjustments and jumped right back on top of them in the second half. Defense is is a disaster right now, but our rotation tonight included only five kids who weren’t on the roster last year, and Jones is the only returnee at the 1-3 currently playing. You have a new coach working with a new roster adjusting to each other, and to him. The stupid stuff is gonna happen.
The L wouldn’t be a big deal, if not for the previous L against FAU. Feels like our backs are against the (early season) proverbial wall a bit as far as picking up some quality wins. Our 3 point D seems… suspect, considering every team has a tendency to shoot the lights out against us. It was an uptempo entertaining game, but if we get into playing 3 point shooting horse with teams we are going to lose a lot of them (33% vs 50% in this one).
Maybe too simplistic but getting the ball the last few inches takes fire. I was hoping Fudge's dunk last game would light that fire. We need leaders to emerge who refuse to lose. Lofton and Jones too soft so far.
