Not really much choice in todays climate. I think the kid should get a shot but I understand why he won’t.
The decision to pull Stokes’ offer was probably above Napier’s head. UF is extremely protective of its image with respect to social issues. As a fan I think this was a dumb idea, that it could have been handled better, but I understand this is the world we live in. I work in a job where the US government screens my social media posts and posts from 18-year old kids. This is just the world we live in.
is this the same Denny Thompson? I think that is where I remember is name from. Mandarin Christian athletic program hit by hefty fine from FHSAA
I didn’t take him out of context. He did say “I don’t give a crap about UF or any other school”. But he still said it. And he also said “I understand the decision but don’t agree with it and will be watching Billy with a microscope going forward to see if there is consistency in future decisions” He could support his kid and still not say that. He has had issues with fans “coming at him” all year and has been super short and blunt. Why have him on if he’s not gonna give insight and attack anyone who asks him for insight or attack decisions. It’s the overall attitude that I don’t like. It’s not just Denny… it’s all the peripheral non-athletes that have access and claim no allegiances that act like Gods gift. Their are media dudes that act like this too. It’s an arrogance and vilification and “othering” of fans. I just don’t like anyone with ties to UF saying “I don’t give a crap about UF”. There’s zero reason to act like that. You’re either with us or you ain’t.
UF is bigger than all of us. They will not risk their reputation for an athlete or any other student. Many students have been expelled over the years. Many athletes have been let go and asked to find new homes. Date rape allegations, academic honor code violations, fights, drugs, …. Look at Jenkins being asked to leave due to drugs or Cam Newton departing before the honor court could meet to expel him for laptop theft and grade issues. Gerald Willis fighting with our 3rd string QB and being forced to leave for the Hurricane football team. There are many other players under many other coaches.
Not to beat a dead horse, but what elite quarterback’s have came out of his 6 Point camp? I know there is AR,Stokes, Mac Jones, Beck and he trained Gardner Minshew. That’s not an elite amount of talent in my opinion.
The list is hard to find and full of unfamiliar names: Gardner Minshew Carson Beck Anthony Richardson Marcus Stokes Mac Jones Emory Jones CJ Simms Joey Gatewood (Auburn, Kentucky, UCF) Jalon Jones (Florida, Bethune-Cookman, Jacksonville State) Ridge Jacobs (USF) Jacory Jordan (FAMU) Holden Geriner (Auburn) Colin Hurley (LSU commit) Jack Hevesy (Arkansas State?) Pate Hogan (Western Georgia) Brooks Hicken Sultan Cooper Grant Travis
Interesting. I can understand training 6-12 graders in fundamentals, but it always seemed odd to me that Div1A kids like AR and EJ would train with such a group. Or, at least have a expertise that has someone with NFL or elite College qb coaching experience. If I were a college coach, I wouldn't be too enthused a third party would have my player's ear.
Well, we are talking about a coach who just blasted on the air to millions of listeners and YouTube viewers that he does not care about UF and other colleges. I get it, he was emotional and was protecting his client, Marcus Stokes. His client list has few former Gators, so be should think about his response and perhaps teach his clients better. I respect Denny Thompson, but I grow tired of him.
Denny just blowing smoke because he’s trying to sell his business to future prospects and their parents so he has to take a stand for his guys… We all know the right decision was made to revoke the scholarship, can’t have Stokes in the locker room with guys that will have an issue with what he said… He could never be thier leader. Also, I’m sure he wants AR to go pro so hopefully he gets drafted in the first round so he can have that notch on his belt as another selling point to grow his business. It’s all about his business, nothing really to do with the kids or the schools, he’s gonna say and do what’s best for him in the end.
