Agree with everything except playing in bowl. Sitters don’t have the same drive as the guys playing. It shows your true colors.
Then you have guys like Pierce that fill the barely part in. It’s no surprise that he is successful and runs so hard on Sundays.
Mullen's neglect wrecked this program. Someone made a comparison to Dumb Doug in another thread. It was spot on. This is the 2022 version of 1979.
Self motivation is the one trait you cannot evaluate objectively, and one you cannot teach. A good coach can bring it out if it’s there, but cannot instill it if it isn’t. “The dog won’t hunt” is my favorite description for this.
I get it ET and thanks for the welcome. I've been a gator since the mid 80's, so I've lived through the highs and lows. The point I was trying to make (although not too eloquently) is one of expectations. With a new coach, expectations should be tempered in year 1, but by year 2, they should be high. Going into next year, we should have expectations to compete for an SEC title. I think expectations for year 2 of any coach at Florida should include a win over Georgia and a trip to Atlanta. I'll be disappointed if that doesn't happen, but I won't be calling for a coaching change if we're winning big games against our rivals and seeing improvement overall. However, if we're struggling through another uninspiring season where we aren't competitive against our rivals and are still losing to the UK's or Vandy's of the world there should be cause for concern.
I think your second paragraph is the reason for the disappointment and criticism from so many. No idea as to his motivation, but expectations for him were way too high last year based on a very limited sample against weak teams. I think the fact that he was a local gville kid also was a factor in people's high expectations.
I understand the perspective, I was at UF in the 70s Agreed Napier didnt inherit as much talent as SOS or Meyer maybe, but he inherited a lot more than Pell did (just compare QBs for starters), not to mention far better facilities and a fan base that has experienced winning and now expects it.
If he’s holding himself back, CBN needs to put someone in there that he can trust to go all out. You can’t have your leader put himself above the team.
That is a big "if" tho. Secondly, "if" that is true and the coaches are still playing him, that is on the coaches and wouldn't align with the "process". Again, I have no idea, all of this just seems like a lot of frustrated fan speculation to me.
Our facilities have been neglected for years and only recently upgraded. Bama and Georgia have been whipping us there for years. While its not 1979, its really a 2022 version of it. Napier has almost as much of a climb as Pell had to get us back to where our fan base thinks we should belong. I said before that this is a rebuild similar to what Dabo had to do at Clemson. This will not be easy, nor quick.
Not at all. 12 games. UGA looks tough as always. 5 games are near certain Ws. Beat Vandy, UK, UT LSU and/or FSU. Im CBN all the way. How did Saban and Smart do year 2? bc everyone says look at their ones. Or its going to be concerning.
Well someone’s already mentioned he said he won’t play in the bowl game. Will take one offensive series in the fsu game to know.
Under today's system, UF would have made the playoff in '91, maybe '93 and '94. 1993 we were 10-2 with a loss at #19 and a home loss to #1 with a win against #5. '94 we were 10-1-1 with wins over #3 (Bama), #6 (LSU) and #15 (Tenn) plus a tie against #7 FSU (or maybe we'd have won in OT. Or maybe not. I know the Choke was real, but OT is a different animal). So if you're talking nattys Spurrier is really hard to compare to today's coaches because the road is different than it used to be.
Different offenses obviously. CBN likes to run 12 personnel in the red zone. The QB typically throws on 3rd down (often long 3rds) in the RZ. No QB will have awesome numbers
