Is there anything that is true about ALL members of the Maga cult?

For all the whining about MAGA, I look forward to the media claiming that Ron DeSantis is more threatening than Donald Trump if he wins the Republican Primary. :D

Leftists who cannot comprehend any legitimate reason why people would vote for Donald Trump are people who are hysterical, who don't just hate Trump but all Republicans with a backbone, and people who frankly should not be taken seriously. They are trying to sell you something and/or bully you into conforming to their ideology. Either way, you and the country are both better off if you stand up to them than if you cave.

I think Barack Obama was the most divisive President before Donald Trump possibly in the last 100 years. I still think there were still completely legitimate reasons to vote for him (even though I disagree with them), most people on this board or in the media don't grant anyone that same courtesy with Trump.

    Fair enough.

Both violate judicial norms and ethical standards, I just happen to think the likely intent of one is worse than the other.

But if true, both scenarios would be bad.

Not sure why that’s in quotes. It certainly applies to me. Trump is every single thing a man should not be. He has no redeeming qualities and was/is unsuited for the presidency no matter what his policies are. I find it absolutely astonishing that anyone can support him.

Yeah, he's basically the devil incarnate, I'm with you (sarcasm).

You don't see why? Take a good hard look at Democrats and cultural elites sneering at Trump's base before he even ran for office, then Trump telling them that he sees them and will do what he can to help them.

Trump is a country club, limousine elitist. I'm not knocking him for that by itself, but there are elitists on both sides. One could argue that Trump did more to speak to the "working class," but the data I've read reflect that Trump voters had a higher medium income than Hillary voters. So I think the class division issue has probably been overplayed. And it's not like Republicans haven't argued over the years that Democrats win by bribing lazy Americans for votes by giving them free stuff and goodies. Why that's not considered condescending is confusing to me, yet Tucker will drone on and on about how Democrat elites are making fun of his viewers for smelling bad and shopping at WalMart - a place I'm sure Tucker, Cruz, Hawley, J.D. Vance and others spend a lot of time in.

The "sneering" is not just about income, it's about values.

They hate the culture of the typical Trump-supporter.

Income and education is part of it, I hear all the time how Trump did great with non-college educated White men (as though that's supposed to be a bad thing). The liberal elite sneer at those people too, but they also sneer at the Mike Pence's of the world who are just very "old school."

As far as the whole rhetoric of "Democrats bribe the poor with welfare" schtick, I'm not the one saying there's no legitimate reason to vote for Democrats. I understand and am sympathetic to people trying to vote in their best interests. A lot of Republicans can do a lot of messaging that's better, I know that. The point is there seems to be folks here who just find it inexplicable that decent people would vote for Trump. All you have to do, is take a good hard look at Democrats.

Yes they were/are different. True enough but Principles? The tea party was a stalking horse for a few Uber wealthy families who concocted, funded it and chose its leaders. Their “principles” were mostly policies that would benefit companies owned by these people - lower taxes and fewer regulations. No doubt in struck a chord at the grassroots level but the movement was entirely concocted and directed by a very few individuals.
The Secret Origins of the Tea Party
What didn’t become public until nearly 20 years later was that these themes of a Tea Party anti-tax, anti-regulation, and antigovernment revolt were then developed almost simultaneously by two of the largest tobacco companies—Philip Morris and R.J. Reynolds—under the guise of political and business coalitions to fight excise taxes of all sorts, including cigarette taxes. In successive phases in the 1990s, with the Kochs’ CSE as its core mobilization network partner, Philip Morris and RJR helped create state-based anti-tax and anti-regulation propaganda campaigns such as Get Government Off Our Back, Enough is Enough, and Citizens Against Regressive Taxation

    The Koch Brothers’ Covert Ops
The anti-government fervor infusing the 2010 elections represents a political triumph for the Kochs. By giving money to “educate,” fund, and organize Tea Party protesters, they have helped turn their private agenda into a mass movement. Bruce Bartlett, a conservative economist and a historian, who once worked at the National Center for Policy Analysis, a Dallas-based think tank that the Kochs fund, said, “The problem with the whole libertarian movement is that it’s been all chiefs and no Indians.

Fair enough. I was just trying to say that I think that goes in both directions, and I think we agree on that. I have friends and family who voted for Trump. Most of them say they don't like him personally but felt they didn't have a choice, so I get your point on that, too.

So is your attempt to paint everyone as evil. Not every "maga" voter is on board with every single issue.

Sorry reality interferes with your one sided pov.

Yes. Imo, they are all following a corrupt leader. The reasons are far more nuanced than some want to admit.

Are there a few potatoes and carrots in the Toxic stew that is MAGA? Sure. But they’re all still part of the toxic stew and if you eat them it may kill you.

Claiming that not all MAGA types are terrible people isn’t a winning defense

Who is trying to win anything? I'm just stating a fact.

The hate that gets spewed here toward "maga types" is insane. As is the hate that gets spewed against liberals.

Most of them arent off the rails political nuts. They have just bought into the pandering.

The fact is that, statistically, using large datasets, racist and misogynist views predict MAGA membership better than almost any other variables.

There is ample of evidence to the contrary. Tea Party spawned the freedom caucus on the house, that group became some of the nuttiest Trump supporters, you could even call some of them insurrectionists.

There’s surely 1000’s of pictures of openly racist or bigoted tea partiers. What % do you think didn’t vote for Trump? It’s only a “different movement” in the sense that after 10 years some tea partiers died off or got bored, and Trump maybe animated some new people to turn out. But overall, it’s pretty much the same people.

There are good and bad people in almost any group, but when I think of the MAGA people, I don't think of Republicans who would have voted for anybody with an R next to their name. I think about the people who have Trump stuff plastered over their vans, who share pictures of him looking like Rambo, and the people who would - like he said - continue to support him if he shot someone on 5th Avenue. It's a sub-set of a larger group.

Reasonable people have a myriad of good reasons to hate Team MAGA. The damage to our nation caused by that political movement has been tremendous.

Your assertion that the derision is “insane”. Is rooted in your go to position that attacks on Team GOP (functionally indecipherable from team MAGA) are unfair. All you do is deflect. Take some ownership for the cess pool that is your party.

"Almost any other" means there are others. Many others.

Abortion is a huge one. You know this Phil.

it's mostly pandering, but many people vote red based on this issue alone.

Religious expression is another. We see it here all the time. Leftists not understanding that Christian groups are allowed in school and that non profit churches feed more hungry than all other entities. Those uneducated (on the facts) posters if they have their way would abolish these rights and do harm.

It goes back to my point. People lump issues into the two sides.

If you want to stop the people that will tax churches and ban religious gatherings in school, then you have to vote for people against gun control... And so on.

I am not saying that is the full reality, but it is the perception that leads many to vote for people they take issue with.

Again. I took ownership of the cesspool when I left it.

My point is to stop hating people who feel they have to vote for conservative issues that have been kidnapped by maga extremists.

The hate on your side is pretty deep.

Again with the religious liberty canard. It’s about religious liberty for me but not thee. Muslim groups and the church of Satan? Yeah no.
