Nonsense. The overwhelming majority of gun owners I know simply like guns. The whole protect my family is just a sound bite. They all live in extremely safe neighborhoods.

    Thoughts and prayers
Let's wait till we have all the details
    Too early to politicize
It's a mental health problem not a gun problem
    What's next banning knives
What if there were fewer doors
    But Chicago
Can you even define what an assault weapon is
If only there had been a good guy with a gun

So, after the some conversations, my friend in CO Springs met one of her Ex's at the club.

The Walmart in Chesapeake is only 10 mins from my Mom's house. She just told me she has to run to Walmart (a different one) Said there was a rumor that a Target was on lockdown, but thinks it's just a rumor. :(

That won’t work as well as you may think it will. Most gun owners were getting along just fine without the money they’d get from a buyback and care more about their gun than a few hundred bucks from the government.

Why don't we start by enforcing the gun laws on the books now!!!!!!
Hell, novel idea, why don't we prosecute the $hit out of all law breakers.
Why create more laws if they are not going to be enforced just like the so many we have now???

Couple issues right off the top:

    1. as more guns are bought back, the value of guns will increase due to their increased scarcity and unavailability. As the amount of guns in circulation continues to decrease, the value of remaining guns will skyrocket in value and the government payout will not be able to keep up with the inflating values. Hence, the buyback will fail. I’d imagine gun appraisal values would triple overnight if this plan was instituted and then they would continuously rise from there as less and less guns are in circulation.

    2. Even if the payouts are super generous, criminals will hold on to their firearms, as guns give a tremendous advantage to criminals. They will still figure to make more money with their contraband than they will giving up their guns for a one-time payout from the government.

That's a pretty despicable thing to say.

MAGA is responsible for the mass shooting now?

The line has to be drawn exactly there, though.

The second they jump from "registration" to "broad gun confiscation" (which is an easy step), the government has gone too far.

I understand why gun-owners worry about a slippery slope, but the line has to be drawn somewhere, and I think it's in a more strict place from what we have now.

With the amount of guns in America and the mental health crisis we have in America, as long as those two things never change, mass shootings (minimum 3 or 4 victims per incident) will happen.

We can do our best to minimize them, but barring effective gun confiscation (good luck with that) and instilling goodness in the minds of people who insist on committing acts of evil, this will always happen.

You can't have security everywhere all the time, you can't make absolutely sure that all 300 million guns in circulation are being reasonably handled, and most importantly, you cannot completely eliminate evil from this world.

    Top of the ridge
It’s simple. Get caught with an illegal gun- 5 years jail. Get caught committing a crime with an illegal gun 5years added to the sentence.
Anyone that provides an illegal gun- 3 years jail. Anyone that provides an illegal gun used in a crime…5 years minimum.
Anyone using any weapon in a shooting- whether murder or not… 5 years minimum just for the gun.

Red flag laws go into effect nation wide. They have proven to work in Florida.
Tiered licensing for guns.eEach tier reviews minimum 20 hours of training before issuing. Basic to advanced. Basic is bolt action rifles and revolvers and pistols.
Next tier- semi auto sporting rifles/pistols up to .308/ Ar10.
Next tier - Semi auto rifles above .208- almost exclusively military arms.
I do not think any of this ends the nut job shooters. Getting illegal guns will always be available. If we banned them completely/ confiscated them.. Mexico would import them on the black market.
This would make it harsher for those walking the streets with illegal guns, make it possible to use red flag laws and check to see if potential shooters have illegal guns and if the illegal guns are found out the guys in jail.

Its not a perfect solution. The idea is to mitigate the problem. Get as many guns as you can out of circulation over the course of a few decades and see if it can make a dent in the gun violence. I think it would take a LOOOONG time to see any appreciable results.

Why you can’t approach the issue from the ammunition side to include reloading supplies?

Where do you think Mexican cartels gets their guns? Largely from the US "legal" market (a US person buys the gun legally, illegally ships it to Mexico through a US-based criminal organization, and then does the same thing the next week, because nobody ever checks to see if they have the hundreds of guns that they have bought). But we are still told that tracking is a non-starter.

I've known more people who were killed by drunk drivers than people who were killed by guns in my lifetime. Please ban the sale of alcoholic beverages, then you can go to work on gun laws.

One way it could work is if the government offered amnesty for their crimes to criminals, drug lords, etc if they turned over the guns. Obviously, that’s a super radical proposal, but you’d need something like that for it to have a chance to work and even then, you’re relying on criminals to trade in a life of crime for a straight-laced way of living. Something most criminals won’t likely do or they wouldn’t be criminals in the first place.

Define "for it to work" for me if you would.

What would be your standard for success?
