No, has to do with offensive playcalling predictability.
We always go run, run, pass down here and the plays are all the same.
James, from GNFP actually said he was very surprised that often Vandy knew the play. That’s from watching film but more importantly it’s from Billy not breaking tendencies. What’s concerning is we have not run the ball well against good teams so you’d think Billy would do something different when the numbers show it’s not working. And, that doesn’t necessarily mean pass. Could be early Jet sweep, could be QB power ( which never gets called) Speed option w Etienne as pitch man, or a different pass play. Our problem- we run the same plays over and over. Our playcalling lacks imagination.

That’s just off base. His numbers say otherwise. With these type of things ESPN is usually the last thing most look at. PFF way more reliable.

Honestly haven't been able to watch a lot of Gator football this year but is it not true when AR has a good game running, it usually translates into a win?

Numbers don’t tell the entire story. They were basically playing prevent and keeping the ball in front of the defense. When we got in the red one, they tightened up and we didn’t put tge ball in the endzone. Guys dropping balls, AR not running aggressively, playcalling, decision making…. Lots of blame to go around. I’ve watched enough to believe AR needs to run the ball to win games though and I believe it.

So when the plays work, it’s on AR and when the plays don’t, it’s play calling? We all know it’s a combination of both, but we also know AR and limited windows and short passing game don’t mix well.

Guess what? Limited windows and short passing game is what red zone offense is all about. You add in AR’s reluctance to extend plays with his feet and I give you last in the SEC and 119th in the country in RZ scoring. What plays would you call?

PFF more reliable? PFF system bakes in opinion. I personally have a hard time wrapping my head around the man-hours it would take to perform all these ratings on every single play, for every player in every college and pro game within the timeframe they seem to put these out each week. QBR is solely about production on the field.

    PFF Player Grades | PFF

Personally, you can't sell me something that says AR had almost as good of a game as Rattler (#3 last week). The QBR makes sense to what I watched in both those games. Yeah, receivers had a few drops for us but AR missed quite a few throws badly and made some questionable decisions. That said, AR wasn't the reason we lost. The offense as a whole contributed to our loss. The focal point of any offense is the qb who gets the brunt, along with the proverbial play calling, if the offense has issues. OLine had much worse game than AR in my mind.

If I recount I believe 7 drops. So, catch 4 of those 7 ( beyond reasonable) and look at numbers, drives extended? What if they catch them all like we’d expect? 25-42-400-3-1 a good stat line against anyone but could have been 32-42-475….
Again, numbers nice but even catching a few changes things w extending drives.

It’s hard to call good plays in that situation but I did like the roll out against Utah at the end that had our receiver standing alone in the back of the endzone,

Plenty of blame to go around for sure. The qb and best player gets credit every time. Good or bad.

That was all AR. He made a SportsCenter play by jump pump faking and spinning out of a tackle. That same dude would throw the ball into the 10th row in the stands today.

Our red zone is bad and that can’t be argued. When the field gets short, a qb has to get quicker and more accurate.

His running or threat to run really stresses a defense. Standing in the pocket, he is so much easier to defend. I don’t care if he throws for 600 yards, it’s still easier to gameplan.

Not only harder to defend, running is his strength whether he wants to admit or showcase it or not. You can work on your weaknesses all day long, but you can’t forget your strengths that got you here.

Exactly, Lamar Jackson without the threat to run is less than average in the NFL.

How does PFF grade throwing the ball out of the end zone on the final play of the game??

I swear this board has just gotten ridiculous. I like Tommyvee’s takes but to see how many winner ratings for essentially saying AR lost the game for us is absurd. This board has turned into the shoulda, woulda and coulda board. If AR walked on water this board would say he should have run. AR cannot catch his own passes, he can’t field punts, he can’t help the defense get off the field on third down without a penalty, he can’t drop easy walk in touchdowns from himself and he can’t catch an easy pick 6. Disagree with me all you want, but it’s the truth with facts not feelings. AR played very well as the OP says.

I don’t think anyone is saying AR lost us the game. We needed AR to win the game. That includes him using his arm (check), legs (unchecked) and leading his team verbally or otherwise (unchecked). We saw a dejected QB who seemed disinterested and unengaged with his teammates.

It’s been noted Vandy wanted to stop the run, which they did. As noted, AR missed a few zone reads. Partly because Vandy had 1 or 2 defenders waiting. I’m saying if everything I listed above, which has not been an issue all year, happens, we win easily going away and nobody is talking about AR missing a few zone reads. AR has never been nor will he be the rah rah QB. Not sure how that equates to wins when the team around isn’t doing their part. There are several QB’s who aren’t the rah rah type in our own conference. AR can’t compensate for acomplete team meltdown.

In the original post I was replying to you said he could have won the game if he used his feet. I interpret that as you saying he lost the game because he didn’t use his feet. Is that not what you meant?
