I suspect his ego got the best of him he thought after spacex and Tesla that he could do no wrong. I hope twitter humbles him.

 

It’s been a few weeks. Give it a couple years. For whatever reason, currently he does not seem afraid to piss people off. He’s not stupid. Let’s see what happens with it.

 

Ego is the basis. But it works through who he surrounds himself with. Social Media, in particular, but tech, in general, requires you to have telling truth to power type folks. People who will tell the "genius" that he is not only wrong but idiotically wrong and come up with a compelling argument why that is when they actually are wrong. That is why you see these guys collect random assortments of smart people, often times huge critics of the field, to mostly sit around and opine about stuff. They pay them to basically do whatever they want and then talk the top guy out of hugely costly mistakes. It is a model that makes no sense to people outside the industry (why would you want to hire people to undermine you, they often ask), but it works in the industry, even at companies like Meta/Facebook that lean more towards moving quickly and breaking things as a strategy.

Musk has, instead, collected a bunch of sycophants, who are using him to further their own notoriety and income (mostly the first, a lot of these guys are already rich, but they are looking for fame/respect more than money). The reason he is doing this is likely at least partially his ego, but it is hugely harmful. And the fact that he is still out firing the people who try to tell him he is wrong about something suggests that he hasn't humbled up and realized his mistake yet.

 

Not mad at all. I predicted on this board about 4 months ago the oncoming right-wing adulation for Musk would be annoying. And here we are.

 

No adulation from me. He hasn’t proven anything yet with Twitter. It could fail. My point is that it’s just way too early to make that call and he has PayPal, Tesla and SpaceX on his resume. Not really a guy I’m going to count out after a few weeks.

You could really say that of most entrepreneurs. Their egos led them to take enormous risk and start up a business. Without their egos, many of them would have taken the ordinary route of a W2 position where their risk was greatly mitigated. So sure, Elon’s ego is supercharged. He’s very confident. You don’t do what he has done over the years without a supreme amount of self-confidence and belief in your abilities.

 

Looks like he is in it for the long haul, doesn’t it?

 

Mutiny unfolding at Twitter HQ right now…

 

This has been my concern (figuratively, I am not really concerned). Just because you should be able to get by with 1/3 of the people, doesn’t mean you can just cut 2/3 of the people. You have to reallocate work and reengineer processes, otherwise shit falls through the cracks. Now it is possible that if stuff falls through the cracks with Twitter nobody really cares.

The only thing that really matters is if they can get advertisers back.

 

This thread is an example of what is wrong with this whole shot show. Now all of a sudden Elon Musk and Twitter are left wing and right wing barometers. Democrats are feeding the narrative that they are failing, while republicans are excusing every idiotic business move because all of a sudden he is on team Republican.

This is a total waste of time and money for Musk and he let his vanity get sucked into this black hole. Even if he succeeds and gets them back on profitability track this business won’t ever approach a $44 billion valuation.

 

Seems I may have been wrong about Musk and Twitter. I thought he was going to work his magic on it, but it seems more like he is intent on burning it down.

Based on his overnight tweeting activity, it reads like he’s sleeping at Twitter HQ and working into the wee hours of the morning. I would assume there are many there with him doing the same. Whether or not this will yield fruit remains to be seen, but you do have to commend the effort, especially considering he has Tesla and SpaceX to worry about.

 

You’re basing this on what Twitter is today. The Twitter two or three years from now won’t look anything like it does today. One thing we can glean from his tweets is he is treating this like his baby. Long nights working at Twitter HQ. He doesn’t do that if he thinks this venture will lose him billions and who are we to tell him he’s finished after 4 weeks? He’s readily admitted some of his changes will suck. They will need time to work through stuff. Obviously, it’s a process.
