Billy, but I wasn't comparing. I meant year 2 as year 2 under MW. And as I said, clearly I was wrong about him regressing -- he was outstanding in year 3 under White -- the team just underperformed and I let that cloud my memory rather than look at the numbers.
I went looking for the Meanwhile in Gainesville thread since we went on that dry spell down the stretch and then had to hope for the best over the last two minutes. Scary.... Not trying to be negative, only seeing if the OP looks at it both ways. Time will tell where this team comes in at. Hoping we don't fall into some of the same traps as before. Got to get past this one and get ready for Friday. Hopefully this team starts to gel by January and figures things out.
Under control: Appleby was frustrating to watch, he could drop a 30' dime and follow that up with dribbling into large bodies down low, with no where to go, for three straight turnovers. Glad he had a nice moment at Wake, he had a nice one for us early last year to.
In Cheese’s junior year, he didn’t start a single game, but he was great at crunch time. In Cheese’s senior year, he was forced into playing White’s milk the ball offense. He did okay, but it was the opposite of the style that he likes to play. The same thing happened with Nembhard in his sophomore year. Cheese and Nembhard push the ball about as fast as any point guards in the game. White forced them into playing a different style of basketball that didn’t suit them. Appleby and Mann liked playing a ball dominant style of point guard.
From the limited play I've seen in two games Lofton is a greater risk of WTF shots than Appleby. A real mess if his current trend continues.
I respectfully disagree. Most coaches would have sat him with 2 fouls in the first half. That would have been 3 minutes and 30 seconds of 1st half playing time. As it stood, he played 16 minutes and 40 seconds in the first half, and he didn't pick up a third foul the rest of the half. The first "analytics play" was leaving him in with 2 fouls where most coaches pull a player. I loved it! Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
They lost by 14 tonight to UAB, and it was classic MW. They were minus 8 in Turnovers, minus 20 in points off turnovers gave up 14 offensive rebounds and went 5-21 from three. And oh yeah, they gave up 53 points in the paint, and I bet they never went zone lol.
On a side note…. Andy Kennedy has a really good team. It will be a battle between UAB and FAU for C-USA. That’s a game I will absolutely attend.
Agreed. Lofton has been relatively solid. The early tech foul out was bad, and so was that terrible missed early shot/botched ball screen 3 turnaround against FAU, but he has a well over a 4:1 ast/to ratio, is shooting 83% from the line and 50% from the arc. Gimme that in a heartbeat from my point guard.
