    True story.
Circa 1994, I was in Bali, doing karaoke at a bar. I did that song (which I ended up doing all week and got a reputation for), but two Dutch guys at the back of the bar gave me a “yee haw”. It’s weird how universal it is.

When I was 3 and 4 years old, I lived in West Germany as my dad was stationed at Hahn Air Base. We arrived on the day RFK was assassinated.

At German Oktoberfest celebrations, "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is a big hit. According to The Washington Post, the song is regularly sung in German beer halls, and has been for decades. That might seem like a strange choice, given it's an American folk tune that highlights the pleasures of rural America, something many Germans probably can't relate to. And in fact, it's not known exactly why Germans are such big fans of John Denver.

One more thing on expats and service members there.
I flew Lufthansa a lot internationally, one time I was checking in in Frankfurt. I heard the agent in the row next to me ask the person checking in “gang oder fenster”, which means aisle or window. Instead of asking back politely if they spoke English, the person literally said (and I wish I were joking), “No, speak American”. And that wasn’t an isolated incident. Many of the Americans there had never left the country before and had no idea how to act.
And even beyond Germany I could write a book on all the bad Americans I have seen. It’s embarrassing.

    /meaningless rant :).

Germany is a great place to visit. Best beer in the world, it’s clean, it’s beautiful, the people are friendly and enjoyable to be around, they have great co-ed and clothing-optional hot springs spas, their women have large breasts, and they are the most disciplined and responsible drivers in the world.

Can’t speak for living there, but it was always my favorite country to go on business.

That's amazing given all the stoppage and commercials. I figured it could catch on as a live event, but could never see it succeeding on TV. I watch EPL in the mornings and it's a shock to the system when you turn on our stuff around noon. You'll get more commercials in the first 15 minutes than you get in the entire halftime break for an EPL (or any soccer) game.

Great find, oragator1. This is awesome, to see other countries embrace American football. I just hope they all adopt American rules football, and not Canadian rules football. No offense to our great neighbors to the north, but your rules are NOT FOOTBALL.

That's great @Bazza, thanks for sharing. :) Gotta admit, the Germans do a good job training their children to sing. I don't know if anyone can compete with Hungary, though.

    (go to 2:37 mark)
