To be fair, even Saban isn’t the old Saban anymore. The players today don’t have the same mental makeup as the players of yesterday. Coaches have to motivate differently now to be effective. Notice the Saban rant from last year. It was about addressing his loss to TAMU by defending his players instead of calling them out.
Saban defends his players all the time and he always has, and they bust their butt for him (well that and the dough). When they aren't busting their butts for him, you can find them on the bench. Like SOS used to say, when it comes to real competitors the bench is a coaches best tool.
I do understand to a degree, Saban's qb rarely does things to get yelled at, Saban does plenty yelling at other guys. Kirby isn't afraid to do some yelling. I remember the BB coach for SC, he would lite into players yet they all knew he cared about them and pushed them to be the best. Frankly, I hate this fragile, snowflake kind of generation growing up where don't hurt my poor feelings. But that's for a different forum.
You’ve followed him. You can see he’s softened quite a bit through the years. Have you seen him smile uncomfortably as much as he does now? No.
He usually save his best when he vents his spleen against the media...but he knows full well that his team is listening to every press conference and every single thing he says in there is done purposefully. Just like Spurrier, the guy is a master motivator (among other things). I bet he is still pretty damn demanding in practice and film sessions.
Yes, but have you seen a Saban team as undisciplined as this year’s Bama team? He’s continually having to change how he motivates and right now it seems to not be working as well…not up to Saban’s standards anyways.
We screwed up Saturday, and Billy must wish he could get a mulligan on last week's preparation. But like any f--- up in life, and everyone of us has done many, you GOT to learn from it and make yourself better because of it. What sucks about it is the getting better does not come immediately. But down the road, the same circumstance inevitably returns. We are going to win one NCAA Title, if not more, with Billy Napier. We are going to be facing another "Vandy 2022 Game," too. We will be prepared and win like 63-10. I love The University of Florida, and it's great to be a Florida Gator.
He said that all coaching groups contribute to special teams, right?...... Well maybe it's an instance of too many chef's in the kitchen..... I need one coach saying to the returner, "You're on the 10 yard line,.... anything over your head you are letting it go and getting away from it." Love Coach Napier and truly believe he is invested whole heartedly into the program. Sometimes I'd like to see him use a little more piss and vinegar in his coaching, whether that be during player instruction, motivation, or in his sideline demeanor. Maybe I'm too old school though...... Surely would like to see him have success here and a Natty or three. GO GATORS!!!!
It wasn’t the preparation. They had a great week of practice by all indications. He said they just couldn’t translate it when they lined up on Saturday. Of course all the things that could go wrong did go wrong and here we are. I’m with you. We can all hope this will be Nape’s embarrassing first year loss moment.
I wonder if the shadows, bright Sun and cold was enough of a distraction and annoyance to cause some to lose focus. For instance, I thought 3 lost the punt in the Sun and panic set in.
Serious question, if he said that of which you stated what does that change? Does he really need to say things Out loud and spell them out during pressers to just satisfy those who want him to say..... what exactly? That we lost? Or that we lost because we didn't run it well enough. And do we really need it said to still know what needs to improve?
He's said before that AR has the decision whether to pull it and run or hand it off or to pass or even to audible out of one of those. They've been calling AR sourpatch kid on the broadcasts because we just don't know what AR we will get each week. The Sour like against UK or the sweet like against Utah and A&M. If you didn't look at the score board and only at te game stats you wouldn't have guessed we lost the Vandy game, just one of those games. Thay actually beat us with muschamp ball. Time of possession and 40 + rushing attempts.
He tries really hard to put on a good front. Losing to Vanderbilt had to gut punch Billy though, hell it did me. I would imagine it hasn’t been much of a picnic for Billy behind the scenes for awhile, on multiple fronts. I don’t believe he and his QB are always on the same page. Those last two plays Sat were total cluster bleeps. I suspect some things will break after Fri.
That’s also one way to lose your fragile new team in your first season. KY was game #2 — gonna start by dismissing your highly-hyped star QB after his first bad game? Some of y’all say the most laughable things
