Well, to be honest, that is an inaccurate statement. AR is as Captain and a leader that is looked to for motivation and to be dependable. He is the furthest thing from that, the furthest thing in what a Caption of the team is also. He has all the talent, heck, he is truly blessed with all the tangibles of becoming one of the best players in history, but it is either he refuses to see or is unable to Grasp upon what failures he continues to display ever game he plays in.. He throws without touch on swing passes, short slants, and most under 10 yards. Then he over throws WIDE OPEN RECEIVERS, at least 60% of his attempts. Then he throws the most perfect pass with touch, placement , and with distance. It just wants you to throw the damn remote threw the TV or worst, Sux out all of the enjoyment in a stadium, and slowly chip away his teammates confidence and desire to focus. he threw for 400 yards, because they did not want to run in the start, but was forced to throw to have a chance. Question, how many 3 in outs? How many times was the ball in his hands, when he could have run for a first down in this game? How many times did he wait to long to run? He is very talented, he has all the abilities to be one of the best in history, but he has been here for 3 years!!! This was his years to shine!!!! It is just disappointing, he listening to the hype of being a first draft pick, and he just wants to get drafted in the first round to get paid. It looks by appears this year record is not his fault, and he just believes what is being told to him. Money tends to change attitudes on reality. just another talented individual that does not live up to improves his blessed talents, but just gets by to get paid.
You don't know any of this. Maybe he's just not a great QB. I am disappointed in his deficiencies as a QB, but I won't question his motives. I can't read minds.
If you throw for 400 yards and lose to a team like Vandy to me it shows you were outcoached. regardless of the little things that happened on the field that are outside of the coaches control. Vandy had a game plan and executed that game plan. 400 yard passing in a losing effort to UGA, Bama, Tenn might be impressive, but not against Vandy. yes vandy plays us tough, even our 2006 title team only beat them 25-19 - but a win is a win. Winning Ugly sounds great right now to be honest, just win. Win the games you should win is a must --- losses to kentucky and vandy should never happen. Look at the history of florida football, losing to both in the same season is a travesty. Vandy gave up 31 points to elon. We scored 24. Vandy gave up 343 passing yard to elon, We had 400 Summary Florida = Elon. thank goodness we didn't play elon this season......
Yes, 400 yards is 400 yards. But you can throw for a crapload of yards and still not control the game. South Carolina Game: 112 yards passing, 2 TD, 0 INT; 15 rushes for 96 yards and a TD. Vandy game: 400 passing, 3TD, 1 INT; 4 rushes for 25 yards. You can look at the stats and say...well, he did pretty good. Now with your own eyes, how well did he do in each of those games? He absolutely looked better in the South Carolina game. He ran the ball, which created threat and space for our running backs. He mostly made better decisions and better throws. With Vandy, he hit a couple bombs while missing reads and throws on critical downs. The more telling sign of how well you are doing is third down conversions....on critical downs, are we able to convert? South Carolina: 9-15 third downs converted. Vandy: 4-15 third downs converted.
Reasons you stated is why I blame the coaches for losing to Vandy. I know coaches are not the one executing the plays, but they can't be excused for this lost . Why the team didn't look ready to play Vandy, especially after watching them beat UK the week before?
I did see all of it with my own eyes from row 7. I'll just say I saw many more than one play changed at the LOS. The defense was set. Coach Napier called the play in while AR and the RBs and WRs looked to the sidelines. The defense didn't change . . . but the play call did. That's all I'll say about that for now. However, I'll also say there were nicely thrown balls that were dropped and went off a WRs shoulder pads and right through their hands too. In the end though, literally, everyone should remember the last pass which I sadly saw was too far as soon as it left AR's hand. Oh, and when Coach Napier called the team together during TV timeouts I was bothered by one player's body language and movement away from the huddles. That player also didn't seem to engage fellow teammates or rally them.
I see this as a "team loss". There are reasons why teams are flat....some of it is on the players, some on the coaches. It is, IMHO, a cultural thing (lingering issue, not a new one)....AND a human thing. We all have bad days. In our case, a bad day = loss to Vandy. But remember, it can always be worse....we could be Canes fans (where every day is a bad day!)
What’s your take? We lost and he’s the supposed leader of the team. With that comes heat for his business decision of not toughing out the field turf in Nashville.
His demeanor was disappointing the whole game. I thought he’s been working on his leadership. I saw none.
My take is we got almost exactly what we get from AR in every game, except he only had four rushes. Well, actually, it was his second best passing day ever. Would have looked better without the early TD drop. And like everyone else, I don't know why his running changed from literally LAST WEEK. But what I will go out on a limb and say is that the attacks on his character via "desire" and "protecting draft status" are asinine until there is even one solitary shred of evidence. Someone's "feelings" and the echo-chambering with a bunch of "CLEARLY!" piling on ranges from entirely unsupported to illogical to purely nasty. There are so many things to get to before the guy who threw for 400 yards and all the scores that this fixation can't be justified with any reasonable explanation. If I don't go all the way to the worst of the possibilities, this is more of a mystery than AR's four carries.
In fairness, I just looked at some of the videos I took and when Ventrell got IMPROPERLY booted and was very upset on the sidelines, right in front of me, the only player that came over and consoled him was AR. The other defenders were still on the field though (and subs about 25-yards down) so it's not like none of them cared.
Florida fans are some of the worst fans in college sports. You act like he's a senior having played almost 4 seasons. It's his 1st. 1st. Yiu are bad as the scouts after his 1st game were talking about him possible being the 1st pick in the draft, off of only his 2nd start ever!! His first start was a disaster. He's making strides but at times is reluctant. He was all-world against SC so we know he will do it. If he's tanking on purpose, why waste the effort against SC? Why SC and not Vandy? My guess is Vandy's team football IQ is better than any team we have faced all year and had him checking into the wrong play. Things he normally sees that allows him to call his own name weren't there. Vandy is a very sound team, they don't play stupid. It's why I don't like playing the service academies.
It’s impossible to argue with any part of this post. One question for clarity: When a play action rollout for an untouched trot into the end zone is obvious to everybody watching, and AR hands off up the middle instead, is that on AR or Napier? Not arguing here, but if it’s on AR for not making the obvious right call, would that be because he was literally incapable of recognizing the opportunity? After 11 games? If so, why in hell is CBN giving him the responsibility to make decisions he’s not equipped to make? OK, so I guess that’s 3 questions
Whatever the reason, we needed a leader out there especially with Ventrell getting ejected. What we got was a player sulking on the sidelines and not engaging his teammates off the field. On the field, we saw a quarterback that’s known for being the best athlete on the field refusing to show off his athletic ability. Maybe he was hurt, maybe he was paralyzed by fear, maybe he didn’t want to be there. We don’t know and can only speculate.
I do give him this. I wanted to see some fire in him after that. It seems like the whole team was sleepwalking and needed someone to make a play. That has to be AR in that instance.
Not just him, I saw a team that looked like it turned a corner in the second half of the aTm game and now basically went "back to normal." This next game is going to show us a LOT.
I do understand what you are saying and it's impossible to know what motives one has. But forums are filled with assumptions, we all make them. How else do you explain for instance that there was zero secret that nfl scouts were in the stands during the UK game. Did he run? Very little. Became a passer. It's really no secret and he had to know there were nfl scouts in the stands to watch him along with our offensive lineman last Saturday, and once again, rarely ran and became a drop back passer. You can say, well maybe he was hurt. Well then he wouldn't have tried to run in the second half or we would have noticed a limp. You can say he made the right call by handing it off in the middle that was clogged up all game. However keeping the ball he walks in easily. So why not run it?? The games we win he is an important part of the running game that opens it up for our rbs. Did not happen this game. Why not run when we were down lots of wr's? We stuck to passing the ball all game long. That is not our MO. But I guess it might be when nfl scouts are in the stands and there's buzz that he might be a first round pick by the lions. What an opportunity to show yourself as a passer. Looks like smoke to a lot of us.
Yes but Lingard was standing there all day. AR went over. It's not that I meant nobody else cared . . . but AR's compassion and going over isn't someone that is only looking out for himself like some have suggested. I didn't want to contribute to that inadvertently.
