The general speak is eerily similar to Mac and Muschamp.

He had already won a national championship at LSU so he had a bit more legitimacy.
    Simply hate the comparisons.
Exactly. He also had the #2 recruiting class coming in as well. Made it to national championship in his second year. Trust me, the constant Kirby first year comparisons will stop next year.

Yeah. I'm trying not to be negative but I see zero positive things from this season. You could possibly point to recruiting but in 2022 that's meaningless until they actually show up in uniform for game 1. Plus if we get embarrassed by all our rivals and Vanderbilt, perhaps in the bowl too, I don't expect the recruiting class to improve. Not to mention having the most talented team on the field but being outplayed, out coached and out scored doesn't make me think good things.

I guess one positive is noticing that as I age I don't care if the football team sucks anymore. Probably also helped by the last decade. I watch for entertainment now.

Not sure Wilkinson's record is that immortal. From 1954-56, he played six teams with a winning record, and three teams with less than 3 losses/ties. The Big 7 was extremely weak in the 50s.

Bryant was indeed an immortal, but Saban has seven MNCs in 17 years, going up against today's competition. Flat impressive.

You're spot on here. Saban was doubted in 2007. After 2008, the doubts were removed...

Why are we looking so far and wide for justification for losing to Vandy. Spurrier and Meyer never lost to Vandy. The fact is that good coaches don't make it a habit of losing to far inferior talent. No rational person is going to say fire Billy Napier right now. I don't think most of this board is on that train. We are hoping and expecting Billy to be better than what he is showing right now.

Losing to Vandy is bad for sure. Nobody is happy about that. I think the main disconnect is that many are putting CBN up for comparison against Spurrier and Meyer, fair or unfair. He’s not there yet, not with these players and not with this team.

Can he get there? I believe he can, but it’s gonna take some time. The same fans that were giddy about 9-4 and “we back baby” are the same fans saying fire everyone and bench the QB that probably had his best passing game as a Gator.

I’d like to remind you it’s a process and we are still in year one. Three signs of significant progress:

    1. Fight until the end attitude (no quit)
    2. Team-first mentality (no going rogue to make that hero play…this took awhile)
    3. Year-round recruiting (no waiting for recruiting season)

I would also include being more disciplined, but we did take a step back in this game with a few more calls for whatever reason.

My point is, CBN is young and we are seeing signs of progress. I don’t think it’s fair to compare him in Year 1 to two coaches that have won National Championships at UF and two additional coaches that have been to the NCAA Playoffs. Hell, the way some of y’all react, these same “elite” coaches will just as quickly turn into pumpkins…cue Beamer over Heupel for COY thread.

Based on the performance of the football team this year I'm afraid BN is no better or worse than our last three coaches and will continue guiding the Gators down the road of mediocrity.

So tired of hearing a “game doesn’t matter”. They all matter. Look at the Oklahoma game. That game allowed other programs to negative recruit the heck out of us and it did cost us recruiting wise.

I get what your saying but with these players he should have beat Vandy.

    Yes, but it happens.

Lane Kiffin should’ve beaten Arkansas and his offense should’ve scored more than 6 points the first three quarters of that game. Does he need an offensive coordinator?

Josh Heupel should’ve beaten South Carolina.

No game is meaningless, and we’ll find out in about 2 weeks when we are assigned to some dipshit acronym bowl on a cold weeknight in late December by that losing to Vandy (and having a losing conference record for the year overall) dropped us a bowl slot or two in the SEC.

You’re overvaluing “dipshit” bowls. After the Citrus Bowl picks, the rest are all “dipshits,” so there’s no difference between the Pool of Six Bowls. We just need to win and get positive momentum going into next year.

Pool of 6 might be aspirational if we lose this week and finish at .500 with a losing conference record and possibly the 10th best overall record in conference.

BTW if Vandy upsets UT this week they finish ahead of us in conference.

Haha ok. Throw the other two bowls in there and no one would be able to tell the difference.

On Vandy being bowl eligible…in the game thread, I questioned whether or not the SEC was trying to get Vandy bowl eligible as it would mean more money for the league. Their UT game this week will give us the answer.

Trap game for UT this week. Playoff dreams shattered, Hooker done and Joe Milton largely = Anthony Richardson. Both could overthrow a government but at least Milton isn’t afraid to run.

I think for the most part, the fan base can excuse a loss to UK, UTk, LSU and UGA. Those teams at the time we were playing were on the upswing and we were still figuring ourselves out and our new coach. 3rd Q of UGA gave some glimmer of what could happen when its all working. USCe was a nearly complete game. Even with all the ups and downs, a loss to Vandy seemed to not be on anyone's radar. Vandy didnt do anything amazing other than show up prepared for a tough fight. What happened on Saturday...can that be excused? Every worst part of this team and coaching staff showed up. NOBODY looked prepared or ready...that starts with CBN and trickles down through the 100 assistants and down to the team. WHY would AR put his body at risk and thoughts about NFL Draft at risk when it looked like nobody was ready. Even after scoring a TD in the attempt to mount a comeback he looked downtrodden. It wouldnt surprise me if he entered the portal and made a run through a team and schedule and conference that isnt as tough as the SEC and could showcase his abilities better. Its like he has had an anchor on his feet all season long!

I don't know how the Debbie downer trolls can handle the cognitive dissonance their relentless negativity requires. South Carolina isn't any good, LSU isn't good, A&M isn't good - nobody we play is any good. Any positive take MUST be beaten down - hell, we don't want to wait and see if Napier's approach can succeed but we sure will disappear from posting if most fans are feeling positive vibes about the program. I think they must seethe when we're all feeling good.
