Not the most important issue from yesterday, obviously, but I was curious if anyone had heard anything about the SEC Network halftime show. I wasn't really paying attention to the discussion after the half, but when they came back from a commercial there were two empty chairs, the host was missing and Doering was trying to play host for a bit with Takeo Spikes. Then the other ex-player came back on camera and sat down, looking very pissed, and Spikes tried to joke with him, saying something like, "Did you get him to keep your wife's name out of his mouth?" And the other guy was not in the mood for it. What was the deal with that?
Benjamin Watson Speaks Out After Peter Burns Made Crude Joke About His Wife On Live TV (VIDEO + TWEET)
Who the hail is "Doren"... yet they gave a nice explanation of who Taeko Spikes is, and that he's from Auburn. Lol at total pro sports. Now... that was rude and uncalled for by Perter Burns.
Yeah, and Doering didn’t exactly smooth it over when Watson came back. Immediately brought it back up. It was some awk-ward stuff.
"We're on live TV right now. I should tell a joke that implies my colleague's wife is cheating on him with me!"
I saw that, I was thinking the dude went backstage to confront that. Boy what a poor thing to say on air.
Maybe I'm just naive but I kind of thought it was saying that his wife texted him that the suit was trash
Yeah I cracked up also, because it caught me off guard like something you would say as the audio fades and it goes to commercial. I also understand getting mad about it, so lesson is, if he's your boy and you know for a fact his wife is faithful, funny, if you don't know their relationship at all, probably not a good joke.
I saw it too. I was waiting for Watson to slap Burns. That’s the correct response for this situation right?
This sounds like someone is full of themselves and could be give an opportunity to move on. That caught me off guard and was confusing.
At first I thought it was one of those staged things, but guess not. Seemed like Watson over reacted to a poor attempt at humor by what's his name. Maybe Watson went back stage and told him to STFU about his wife, but who knows. Wonder if SEC network or Burns will put out a PC statement or maybe just do nothing, pretend like nothing happened.
Me too. In he context of the conversation talking about suits, it is quite the leap to assume otherwise. Burns could have been a little more descriptive though.
I thought it was a bit. Especially when they came back and Doering asked the guy if he "kept his wife's name out of the other guys mouth." Seemed scripted... if not.. meh
You work with a bunch of dudes and got the position by playing football with a bunch of dudes, you should expect a certain amount of ribbing all in the name of fun. It sounded pretty tame and to make another dude apologize to your wife when you’re the one that lost your cool and blew things out of proportion is pretty lame. I understand I’ll probably be in the minority here, but this is like the Will Smith moment to me.
Marriage is like a blue collar job site. "This marriage has gone ___ days without the husband being relegated to the couch at night." When a guy does nothing to deserve it and still ends up there because of something another guy said, that guy deserves to have his block knocked off. It just isn't cool to throw down a shit test in front of a guy's wife. We're gonna get in enough trouble without someone helping it along.
