Listening is one thing. Personally exhalting is another. Respect of others is not very difficult no matter ones race or background.

My opinions are my own and I have no trouble articulating them within the rules of this forum which are quite a bit tighter than the the political forum I frequent a rather more rough and tumble place that you would not thrive in. You’re cute when your team gets called out though.

Totally agree. And like I said, we don't have players at UF who would blare this type of music loudly or exalt it, regardless of their background.

To draw a line and say everything on this side is racist and everything on the other side is OK is just wrong.....Back in the 80s I dressed one of my sons in blackface, glued a strip of black woolly carpet on top of his head and adorned him in gold chains and jewelry and took him trick or treating as Mr T. Was that racist?

Can’t help you dude. I’m in my 50’s I pretty much knew what I expected out of myself and friends back in college or shortly afterwards. . If it eases your mind dressing up like Mr T (even 30 years ago) displays a shockingly poor taste in personal style it’s not racist. Edit missed the dressing your kid in black face l.

    Umm yeah never mind…

Good points. Well written… until the name calling. IMHO it didn’t add any weight and damaged your credibility no matter which side of the aisle you or I or any other reader sits on. Agreed with your previous post (#70), though.

No chance my friend. Rap culture is too entangled into black culture. Now that isn't a bad thing with most rap, however it can be. Lebron is someone that little kids look up to and emulate things he does. He has influence over a lot of youth, especially young black youth. I actually like Lebron. I think he has been one of the only mega stars to stay clean and be a good person on and off the court and never have anything negative come up about him. I also think a lot of the hate he has gotten is misguided, especially since he has been compared to someone like Jordan who is not a very good person but Lebron gets the short end of even that argument because Jordan fans are so crazy (ok sorry about the side rant lol).

With that said, I think his decision to pay homage to a certain rapper was misguided and not something he should be doing with so many people looking up to him.

Let me tell you a little story about King Von. King Von was a rapper. King Von was a known gang member. King Von was a known killer of multiple people. King Von was also a murderer of a rival female gang member. He is attributed to 3 murders that people know about before he was murderd himself by another gang member. He used to rap about these murders and other issues with his "ops". These songs had amazing story telling to them, according to Lebron. He's happy that his kids listened to this type of music and "story telling". I quote story telling not to minimize rap, I like a lot of rap music (feel free to see my postings in "What are you listening to" if you think Im lying) but this is more like dry snitching on himself and glorgying gang life and killing your "ops" (also known as Drill rap, btw).

LeBron James mourns King Von's shock murder, admits family members loved rapper's music

To be fair to Lebron - it wasn't only him. He was just the most high profile celebrity to say something about him.

We can't expect to move forward if these are the people who are put on a pedestal.

I sort of hoped you would answer yes. I was going to ask about my other son who I painted blue and put a white beard on him and he went as PopPa Smurf. Then I put on an undersized pair of jeans, took my shirt off painted myself green and wore a green wig. I didn't feel like we were racist.

Oh man, we got one that is rough around the edges ladies and gentlemen. He.... gasp... frequents a rough and rowdy forum that only tough guys thrive at. You are such a phony, I can see right through that spray tan you talk about. I bet you're one of those fast talking, greasy haired slime balls and probably talk like Joe Pesci. GTFOH with this tough guy bullcrap.

Schollie shouldn’t be pulled. UF had Kodak Black on the sidelines & in the locker room w/players. Doubt they were playing Taylor Swift. Check his lyrics & you’ll hear the same words Stokes sang. Most FB players listen to it, part of FB culture & why players are supporting him. Are they gonna cut all songs out of the locker room that has the lyrics he sang in the song? Will all songs now have to be approved prior to playing in the locker room so none of the white or Hispanic players on the team sing the wrong lyrics and have their scholarship pulled? Utterly ridiculous.

    XO no
its more about people being able to say
It’s true I put George Hamilton to shame. A lifetime of windsurfing gets you pretty dark.
This place is fun because I get to trash some rotten ideas without insulting anyone in the process. Learning a new skill set!

Surely PD will agree that cultural appropriation is another of the made up falsities to add to the list. Back in my day imitation was the highest form of flattery! Typing falsities made me think of falsies… squirrel!

    Stokes is a
17 year old with bad judgment. Like a lot of 17 year olds. I have no idea if he is a bigot. I can’t stand hearing that word and hearing it in songs. But, singing a song worth a word in it is not speaking the word as an epithet. I don’t know more other than what I saw in the video. If all it was was the video, I would have let him apologize and explain. Not cut him loose. Unless there is more in his background.
