Don't try to change the subject. Yes, if we had Georgia's or Bama's players we would have a larger margin of error. However, 247's 2022 Team Talent composite has UF ranked 12th compared to Vandy's 61st. I believe the current roster should cover any need for "room you have for error when things go against you or you're not playing your best." I'm surprised that I have to point this fact out to someone as astute as yourself.
We have the exact same conversations every Saturday about two issues unique to this team, and the root isn't about recruiting, player's performance, or official's making bad calls. It's about poor play calling and clock management. Sure, not every play is going to be a home run but when we guys on the board are calling the exact next play from our couches (run up the middle) or coach is calling time outs that actually help the other team, or doesn't try to score at the end of the half, that's an issue that's on him, and it happens every week. I just hope he rights the ship because I'm not about to be around my niece if we lose to tSOW
Yep coach's rep for attention to detail is taking a big hit. Special teams play, penalties at the worst possible time and questionable use of time outs don't help. Makes a fan wonder what that army of assistants is doing. Beat fsu tho and most fans will be good.
And a lot of us attended UF and graduated, donate money every year and have actual blood, sweat and tears invested into the university. Then you have the bandwagon posers. I also live in East Tennessee but am from Jacksonville. I’m a legacy Gator 3rd generation. What gets me is all the wanna be Gator fans here in East Tennessee. They are everywhere but none of them can you tell who the coach was before Spurrier. You native East Tennessee folks are a different breed.
Maybe, but my post was pointing out how a lot of posters were dogging on the chip Kelly hire and the Brian Kelly hire and BOTH of them and their teams are in a much better place than we are. Nothing was said about wanting them here. And Chip Kelley is still at UCLA. DM got fired he was so bad.
some of these guys live vicariously through 18 year olds. It’s usually the ones that never played a sport in their life.
If nothing else, after the spate of bad coaches we've had, we maintain a right to be skeptical at this stage.
With some time and distance, looking back on this game, we just had really bad luck with the two scores off of turnovers. And our failure to capitalize on the two turnovers we earned. If they only got points off one of our turnovers, and we got points off one of their turnovers, this is a win. Even if we didn't get points off their turnovers, with only one of our turnovers turned into points, we kick an extra point for the win instead of going for two. And if it was flipped, if we had scored off their turnovers and they hadn't off ours, we would be talking about how Vanderbilt got blown out. Special teams isn't so special right now, costing us touchdowns in back to back games. When we beat Florida State, no one is going to remember this game.
Yeah, you're right. We should just fire all the coaches because they're terrible and should never lose to a team like Vandy. Give me a break. We've been over the talent composite rankings before and the flaws in them. Maybe you missed all that.
Poor Vanderbilt got fined $250k after their fans rushed the field. The stands didn’t look that full so they couldn’t have gotten their monies worth out of that celebration. South Carolina, Vanderbilt fined by SEC after home upsets — ESPN
I believe many of the issues raised by posters are really not relevant at this time, to whether our team in the coming years will take the next step under CBN. If you think about it, Mullen basically might have been able to win a NC with Trask, and he was terminated because his D was terrible and he refused to upgrade his staff (besides his dislike for recruiting). IMO the top coaches these last few years... Saban, Smart, Day, Dabo all share a feature in common.. the ability to replace quality assistant coaches with other quality coaches and not miss a beat in the performance of their team. Lots of different issues with this team, many inherited, some where the fix isn't working so great. We need to see what CBN does in the offseason to really upgrade team talent, and also upgrade or reorganize his own and his assistants responsibilities and performance. So i would say to everyone stay patient and let's see what happens in the off season and the spring. Next season we will have a much better idea if we are on a good trajectory.
If Chip Kelly had been hired here and put up the numbers he did, he would not still be here. Different standards of expectation.
Maybe you should apologize for suggesting I want the coaches fired. Never once did I say or imply that. Your over the top responses are neither appreciated or of any value to this discussion. Good Sir, I am done with you. Have a great day.
I then suppose you know what the common wisdom is about those who ASSume . . . like you . . . since I am not of the native East Tennessee "breed." Being an alum or a 10th generation legacy doesn't excuse some of the negativity and bashing on these boards.
When you say the with the players we have we should never lose to Vandy, it’s pretty obvious you’re saying it’s the fault of the coaches. This is football and sometimes things go against you. I stand by what I said and no apology is necessary or forthcoming.
