Tenn defense is terrible. When we played them they were ranked 108th in the country in total defense, currently ranked 85th. By comparison, we are 106th. So defensively, they are nearly as bad as us. Tenn is particularly bad in pass defense. Remember AR threw for over 500 yards on TN. So doesn't suprise me that Rattler threw for more than 600 yards.
Riley at USC west or BK at LSU are COY. They both took losing teams and now have them ranked and playing for conference championships. I think USC had 4 wins last year. Both used the portal well to attract talent to address depth issues, both very good game day coaches. Our Gator team looks very similar to last year’s team, whereas LSU and USC look much improved from prior year. Change was immediate and easy to discern and observe. You get what you pay for when hiring an experienced HC from a top 20 program to lead your team. Billy was a good lower conference coach but is learning in the job with the best coaches in the SEC. Made mistakes by hiring young friends to follow him to Gville to become Coordinators and special teams coaches. These are not SEC quality coaches at DC, Special Teams, TE, QB coach. I pray Dabo was not right when he fired Billy and assessing he could not win championships at Clemson with Billy calling plays.
Ok now we are talking about national COTY. That's a truly difficult choice. It's a good thing that one isn't picked until later, like right after the conference championships. My guess is it will go to the guy that wins his conference championship. Riley is the favorite but who knows, Georgia sure looked average playing Kentucky.
Talking SEC COY Kelly Beamer Heupel My order A lot depends on how they finish spinner baits Clemson or Wednesday ball game you have to give him a ton of credit for winning eight or nine games with that roster. I believe we have to take into consideration the actual talent a team has.
I would say Tennessee considering how they've performed considering their expectations. Brian Kelly has been excellent, but he's at LSU, and he was already a big name coming from Notre Dame. A lot of people, myself included, thought it was an odd "fit," but LSU winning with Brian Kelly shouldn't be a huge surprise.
Always a little baffling that a guy like Kirby isn't mentioned....kind of like SOS getting overlooked so many times because he had his teams expected to win
Good point for sure. I think when you look at a Beamer or Kelly you have to consider they don’t have half the talent that Kirby has. That being said he is a heck of a coach and will probably be a national coach of the year.
True....but I always think it gets overlooked that the coach is also responsible for most of that talent. But we all know the guy who exceeds expectations is generally gonna get the nod
I thought Spurriers award was for a first year coach, Beamer is in his second season....therefore I would say Dykes, then Riley then Kelly....
No coach that lost to Florida 38-6 deserves coach of the year. and if they get blasted by Clemson it’s all for nothing. Their win over Tenn just opened the door for Clemson to make the playoffs.
Heupel or Kelly deserve it. Out of the two, Heupel is a better O coach. Kelly's team improved throughout the season and plays better D. Heuple comes from the lineage of coaches whose offenses generate 45 points per game yet give up 40. If were picking a coach for my team , though, I would probably pick Heupel.
BeamerTime!!!!! What an upset 2 weeks in a row. Coach of the year in SEC. Does more with less. What a hire!!!!
